[Chron] Andre Johnson is Houston's No. 1 athlete, and No. 2 isn't close.

You have to actually play to be relevant. That eliminates Yao since like 1987 or something.

I wish someone would rank the Chronicle's sports writers.

    1. Anna Megan Raley - Boobs r kewl.

    2. Megan Manfull - Best name evar. Also probably has boobs. (Which r kewl)

    3. M.K. Bower - He got fired but his hair was awesome.

    4. Sam Khan Jr. - It's fun to read something and go "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!"

    5. Jonathan Feigen - At least he doesn't piss us off.

14,747,813. John McClain - Well meaning, but basically a puppet for the Texans org, did you know he was in a movie about football? That makes him an expert. Totes magotes, bro. At least he got Warren Moon into the hall of fame. Always funny when he gets offended by what people say/ask/call him during the live online chats.

Now this is where it gets tough...

-999,999,999,999,999A. Dick Justice - He avoids the worst ranking simply by having a name that basically is a joke unto itself (see the Megan Manfull rule). Only remotely knowledgable about one sport, but that is negated by being the worst flip flopper to ever put pen to paper. Probably the least clever person on the entire Chronicle staff, which is really saying something, but it's made all the worse by him thinking he is hilarious.

-999,999,999,999,999B. Jerome Solomon - Allow me to sum this up as simply as I can.

Did you even read the list or its supposed criteria? Or did you just feel like bashing Yao's injury history just for the hell of it?

Using Dick Justice's criteria, Yao should be number 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, for each of his 5 crappy games this season. Andre Johnson doesn't come close from a notoriety standpoint. Neither do anyone else really. Les doesn't get bashed in GARM repeatedly for supposedly keeping Yao as a cash cow because Yao keeps getting underrated outside Houston.

Screw Justice's limp brain and any "criteria" or other ideas he manages to flatulate out of that primordial ooze.

Notoriety is worthless. Yao is nothing but a $20MM drain on this team. Hey, we freaking SUCK but we're popular in China!!!

The only reason you'd recognize Yao in the mall more quickly than Dre is because you've never seen any other 7'6" Asian in person.

    Good freaking riddance.

Derek Bell was not in Houston in 94-95. He didn't come till either 96 or 97. You can replace "Operation Shutdown" with Ken Caminiti, and probably move him above Hampton, who really didn't establish himself as a "great" pitcher until '98.

Bells 95' season with the Astros was his best year in the bigs, his .334 batting average was the fourth highest in the league. Agreed on Hampton - it was a quick list...I wanted to put Billy Spires in there too but he was 97 up iirc

I can't believe I forgot Ken Caminiti. I remember walking around Sound Waves on Montrose (iirc it was 2001) in the clothing section, turn a corner by the surfboards and there was Ken, one of my hereos growing up, slumped down sitting in a chair - barley could raise his head to look at me. Obviously just hammered. :(

I don't know why my sad and pitiful brain had that trade happening after the '95 season.

My fondest memory (well, other than "going into Operation Shutdown" with the Pirates) was the "Oh my God" homerun against the Mets. That was simply awesome.
