I would consider Dunleavy a "settling for someone" candidate. I definitely think the top three candidates would be JVG, Brown, and Silas. Dunleavy seems one of those coaches that has had a lot of talent but rarelly gets more out of them, while the other three seem to get more of of the talents they have had.

I seem to recall one incident when JVG was swept up into an altercation on the court and drew a lot of respect for doing so.

Besides, Dunleavy's name gets mentioned whenever an opening comes up but he hasn't been chosen. He seems just a step above the normal re-treads that get rehired all of the time.

I would favor Del Harris before Dunleavy, to be honest...

The Rockets don't necessarily need a high profile coach. I think its more of a motivation to sell tickets. The Warriors and Pistons' coaches weren't exactly household names when they were hired.

I say just hire the best man for the job. Its better to get a no name who has great potential rather than some recycled coach.

We could use both Dunleavys, and Gary Payton. Our basketball IQ would sky.

Actually, he took the Lakers to the Finals and then failed pretty miserably with the Bucks. Also, you act as if a "degree" in psychology is a good thing...

He is a decent coach, but most seem to think he is going to the ATL.

Dogs are animals. Most of the places in the world just laugh at Americans since we pay so much attention and money on our pets.

Think about it this way, in some places in the world, a dog could feed a village nicely. I think this is the dog's value. It has more value this way to society. Its better to utilize a dog this way than to make it do some stupid trips or to fetch your paper.

I'd love to kill your argument, but this thread shouldn't be driven that way. I'll just leave it with the dog thing doesn't suprise me about Les Alexander, considering he is a vegan (or vegetarian, not sure which one) and he's big PETA guy.

Now back to what this thread is about:

I don't know who the coach is going to be (I hope it's Calvin Murphy- he's a basketball genius in my opinion), but I'm not so sure the coaching world views the Rockets as highly as Alexander does. Not saying they don't, but man, this is more evidence of Alexander way overvalueing the Rockets. (examples: "the greatest team ever" statement, this article, and don't forget the ticket prices cause the Rocks must be the 2nd best team in Leslie's eyes cause that's how he's pricing them)

AJ's done a great job as a player/coach for the Mavs this year. I would love for the Rox to bring him in. Maybe not as a head coach (he's not quite ready for that yet) but he would be a great assistant...

i would absolutely LOVE avery johnson as an assistant coach. he might be able to do wonders with steve like a "small man" expert.

my top choices for head coach are larry brown and donnie nelson.
