agreed...I see him more of a solid role player, not the one that takes us over the top...

We need to get a real power forward now, we got PG SG and SF set with Alston, Battier, and Tmac, we need a legit PF now to play next to Yao and some bench help, but Luther head and Novak won't be bad off the bench. In my opinion we just need to fill the big hole at PF and this team isn't half bad. Try to get an athletic forward who will complement Yao

Who the F*** is the Shooting Guard? Who can defend the Shooting Guard? Please tell me. It aint Battier? It sure as hell isn't Battier? And McGrady gets burned as a SG?

I love the part that we have "TRADITIONAL POWER FORWARD". Who is the Traditional Power Forward? Juan Howard has been getting killed as a power forward. He isn't even a rotational player. He is a marginal NBA player. I would put him at the end of the bench. And then the other guy on our roster the 6'4'' Power Forward Chuck Hayes. Now that is a traditional power forward? A guy that is the size of an undersized SG.

Right now we have more holes than swiss cheese.

We have no GOOD Power Foward and we have no Shooting Guard, no backup Shooting Guard and no Backup Point Guard.

We have One GUY who can put it on the floor and finish. AND HE WAS OUT MOST OF LAST YEAR HURT without resolving the injury. Just hoping that the injury doesn't flare up again.

We have two Starting Small Fowrards and a Center. Thats it.

We gave up the Power Forward of the FUTURE to Memphis plus the chance to get a Shooting Guard in the DRAFT.

    This trade was stupid.

I would have only started liking the trade if we had gotten Mike Miller also.

Knowing The Rockets, they probably paid McGrady to say that.

then again, dwyane wade is a super quick, athletic freak that puts tons of pressure on defenses. dallas also has super quick players that also do the same... terry, devin harris, josh howard, even dirk. the spurs have ginoblli and tony parker. the suns have nash, marion, diaw, etc. i'm not saying we need to become the suns with a bunch of race horses, but we need at least a few quick/athletic guys that can put pressure by taking it to the hoop. we gave up swift and gay for a guy that doesn't do that.

    Trade his ass as well.

Blah blah blah we want win now - he has never gotten past the first round. He is not Kobe complete with his killer instinct and fire. He does stay healthy. And he has the guts to say he wants to win now. Just like Verse said, we would win now the xactly amount of games would have won with Rudy or Battier - that is my deduction.

    Shut up already Tracy.

This is the second night and I have not felt better yet - what is wrong with me?

I don't know either man. TMAC is TMAC. but still him "wanting to win now" is high unlikely and more or less just a "wish". The odds are seriously against us and this trade puts us in a situation to "WIN NOW" with more or less THIS TEAM for the next 3 years. We just trade away our biggest assets of the off season. That said, of course as a player he wants to WIN NOW and WIN before he retires. But how LIKELY is that??? This move will ultimately screw the Rockets and we will not sniff the championship till the next generation(ultimately when Yao is too old, or even worse decides to leave).

because this trade is so fundametally stupid,

because we have seen the trend line and moving average of stupidy from this management

giving away 3 first rounders, squandering big money away on scrubs Moochie, Taylor, cato that forced us on the welfare line of cheap patch work trades to fill wholes they themselves created and they themselves could not afford to rectify.

Just when you think there is no way they can repeat the stupidities based on hard lessons learned from the past they give you a departing gift.

It is not enough that these fckers are fired!! The damage they have done is for years and years to come. this is their legacy and our nightmare.

Swift + Gay should be worth more than freaking Bettier!!

No third scrorer, no round of guys that can fill up depth but a scrub that will compete with howard for starter PF.

This year will be another wasted season at least we know ahead of time unlike last year that was full of promise.

This is getting a bit ridiculous. Nobody is doubting that Battier can bring something to the team, he is everything (well, most everything) they are saying about him.

The problem is the price we paid to get him. Battier, in no stretch of the imagination, is worth Rudy Gay AND Stromile Swift. Thats simply absurd!

It had been 10/5 Shane Battier for 10/5 Stromile Swift + whichever role player Memphis desired, there would be no outrage in the community. The Rockets would have gotten the player they wanted, the fans would be happy, we would win now, and have a strong threat in the near-distant future in Rudy Gay. Instead, we find ourselves losing a star and a role player with another role player as the only return, trading youth and athleticism for making an already old and slow team even older and slower, and ridding the team's only glimpse of future brilliance in favor of retirement and health problems.

There's no need to defend Battier, we know who he is, but we also know what we lost. Brilliant move

JONATHAN FEIGEN replied my email to Chronicles (probably he sent it out to dozens of angry fans who emailed yesterday). I guess he got the same line from Rox organization and just tried to sell it to fans.

There is no doubt that we got better over night. Swift changed to Battier, yeah it is to the better direction. BUT, we gave up Gay, we gave up a lot! We should've got much more from a #8 pick than swaping Swift with Battier.

All these Chron reporters may have been asked by Rox club to sell the trade to fans, but I just do NOT buy what they are saying. We should've done BETTER than this, and that IS the bottomline.

I don't agree that as our roster stands now that we can go for the championship. I hope the Chronicle doesn't really expect that. There's got to be more moves. However Battier is not just typical one dimensional role player. He can play 3, 4 and some 2. He is the complete role player. He can give you the 3-pt., he can rebound, he can take the charge, he can guard many types of players. And he he seems to do it at critical times. It wasn't his fault that he had a bad series with the Mavs, the whole Grizziles team had problems with the Mavs. Yeah I want more young and athletic players added to the mix but we also need players like Battier. We may have given up a little too much but we do definitely need a player like him.

kobe has never lead a team out of the first round either. he's 0-2 (not making the playoffs at all and getting bounced). where was that superior killer instinct when his team lost 3 straight after being up 3-1?

good post icehouse, you are stating the obvious, we didn't maximize value for the #8 and Slowmile, but you are thinking without the emotion of the immediate post-draft trade. Your points are well taken. I too like battier and can envision him being a vocal team leader and spark plug, good decision-making, hustle, etc. I think he is a good fit, its just that we should have gotten the #24 pick in return or a PG/SG from the logo.
