Tmac is just saying party line now...

There is NOTHING, NOTHING against Shane. He seems to be a great guy.

But that does not change the fact that CD, Morey, and JVG are idioits.

Come on, Houston media, say it as it appears -- Houston Rockets is violated by Jerry West.

Did you ever see Spurs and Mav trade picks and players like this???

Where did Villanueva play at before UConn? Was he a transfer or something?

Blah, blah, blah.....damage control....spin....rhetoric....blah, blah, blah. Bottomline, the Rocket's "crack" management team has historically made some of the worst draft day decisions imaginable, some of the worst trades imaginable, some of the worst contracts imaginable. Stupid is as stupid does. They were raped by West, he is ecstatic, something Rocket fans may never be with this group of dolts at the helm. Bottomline, the Rockets are a poorly managed team and , apparently, Morey the alleged techno genius can't even dilute the density.

    Exactly.

If the Rocket's management had not screwed up 13 of the previous 15 transactions we would not be screaming. We might give them the benefit of the doubt. But this is the worst in a series of bad deals.

Hopefully Morey had nothing to do with the Rudy Gay deal. If he did fire him with CD.

Like I said, I like Battier and I think he'll be a great fit. But I still think we overpaid to get a player of his calibur.

I just don't see how a team can go into the draft and come out w/ more holes than they did going in.

Dude, you sure are harsh considering that we traded a garbage PF that is dumb as a stump, and an unproven rookie that is known to disappear in games for a hustling, tough, firey leader that WILL help us next year. Whether you like the trade or not, he WILL help us next year. We have at most a 4-5 yr window with Yao and Tmac, and I have no problem giving away an unknown rookie for a proven player that will provide some of the things we desparately need.

After reading the title "[CHRON] After draft day dealings, Rockets ready to take on West", I was actually getting excited -- I thought Rox will take on JERRY WEST and refuse the deal.

Then I realized that was just a pipe dream...

You are right Shane Battier will. One of the most important things he will bring. I am more interested in Hubie Brown's word than I am T-Mac's. The guy has proven that he is a very good NBA analyst and a great evaluator of talent. If you are going to listen to anyone listen to what Hubie says about someone he coached.

I was upset when the trade went down, but after actually THINKING about it instead of letting angry emotions take over, I completely agree with the above assessment. Even if Gay turns out to be all that, this will be a good trade if the Rockets win. It's really as simple as that - win = good trade, lose = bad. What we have to remember is that it is a rare thing to have 2 superstars like T-Mac and Yao entering the primes of their careers. We simply have to capitalize on that and Battier will help do that.

Hubie Brown is one of the greatest basketball minds of all time, who happens to know Battier very well, and he gave the trade a thumbs up. Draft Express is one of the more credible and objective evaluators of the draft, and they gave the Rockets an A for this move. T-Mac sounds genuinely excited about the trade. With all of these endorsements, count me among the convinced.

I like Battier, always have. That is not the point, the Rockets gave away arguably the best rookie in the draft, plus Swift who though a complete slacker has his moments. Obviously, they should have gotten more, like a bench player. And if Gay turns into a superstar, this deal will go down as the dumbest in NBA history. If they wanted Battier, they should have come up with another way to get him. How stupid to create a draftnightmare for the fans. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Gay is arguably the best rookie in the draft on paper only at this point. Griffin was arguably the best rookie in his draft and we all know how that worked out. I don't think there is anyone on this board who wouldn't be willing, were it possible, to turn back the clock and trade him for Battier.

Sometimes trades work out for both teams. What I could easily see happening is Battier turning into an important piece that allows us to take advantage of Yao's and T-Mac's prime years and helps us to a championship. Even if Gay turns into a superstar, I don't think Rocket fans will mind if that comes to pass. I don't hear too many wishing that we had never drafted Dream and had picked up Jordan instead, even though Jordan is almost universally considered to be the best player of all time. Not exactly an appropriate comparison, I realize, but the general idea is the same.

Is this team a finished product? By no means. However, let's just all calm down and realize that this trade won't be able to be objectively evaluated for at least 2-3 years, as we see both how well Gay develops and whether or not the Rockets parlay moves like this into championship contention.

See everyone, TMac gets it, we are trying to win NOW !!

This is all about contending THIS YEAR !!

How could you not like that?

Sure it may not work if Yao and or Tmac are not healthy but I applaud the nutzka it took to try it.

Well, can you help to find out Hubie's comments when Rox sign Swift last year? I think he sounded positive then also...

It is going take alot more than adding Battier to contend now. How soon we forget the abysmal performances of last year's supporting cast. To many of us, Gay represents the kind of spectacular athletic talent that we were hoping Swift would turn into. To have him fall in our lap and then trade him away was incomprehesible. This team is slow. This team can't shoot (Battier will help some). This team needed a Josh Howard kind of player. They got him and "gave" him away.
