to be fair, they didnt really have time on the court together though...

like most people, i like shane just fine but im worried about the cost...our post depth just got a lot weaker, even if it is swift.

now lets all hope that t-mac and yao stay healthy to be able to play with shane and get us back in the playoffs.

Oh wait, sorry ... that was the Chronicle's pump of McGrady on Swift last year - not Battier this year. My bad.

Well at least McGrady likes it and he's been talking about a guy that can take defensive pressure off of him. :)

McGrady's opinion is about as worthless as mine. Players know less about player personnel issues than even the fans do. Of course he wants Shane. He would have preferred to trade Dwight Howard for Battier too. It's all about ego. When you're a great NBA player, you think you're good enough to win with only modest improvements. It's that same ego that makes him a great player. Unfortunately, he's wrong here. This Rockets team needs alot more than Shane Battier and missed out on a big chance last night. Oh we'll win 55 games next year if healthy, but we'll see after that.

Am I the only one who's liking:

    Juwan+Hayes+Novak more than Juwan+Swift+Hayes?

Anything that moves Hayes up in the rotation, I'm happy with. And we got that sweet shooting four that was missing last year. Juwan will still probably be the starter (ugh), but if Hayes gets 20+ minutes and Novak can play maybe 10-15 minutes as a SF/PF then I'm liking the production from those three guys. Plus Battier would probably see minutes at PF when we want to matchup with teams that like to go small (Dallas, Phoenix, etc.).

I'm not too worried about PF. Add Mike Gansey, and maybe sign Mike James, and I think this ball club is looking pretty good.

Or maybe it's just late and I'm in denial. :D

-Battier plays well with great players, but we don't know if we have great players because of McGrady's back. We could have had another great player with Gay.

-We're going to play Battier at PF? We aren't going to beat Phoenix by playing their game.

Hey, it's not T-Mac's fault that Stro didn't live up to his potential.

And I don't think it's fair to bash players like McGrady for supporting players coming over here from a trade or free agency. They have to play with these guys for potentially 82 or more games- what are they supposed to say, "Well, management really blew this one!" What Tracy said is absolutely the correct and only thing he should be saying about this trade. That's what teammates do- you welcome new teammates with open arms and support them fully, especially when you realize that they may incorrectly receive the brunt of fans' hostility.

I'm not happy about the trade, I think we gave up too much, and we definitely have more holes to fill. But let's not start criticizing the players for supporting their teammates, whether it be Stro or Howard or Battier or anybody else.

Doesnt justify anything. Guys like Battier or close to him could be had for less than what they gave up. Battier has a nice blend of intangibles and versatility and I have always liked him I must admit but a high lottery pick and underachieving former lotter pick I wouldn't have given up for him.

I don't think nobody is disputing Battie is an nice guy and hard worker, and so, and so.

I am just pissed because we did not get what we could have got in return. If we could have waited, today we would have better offers lined up.

Take on the Western Conference? What a freakin' joke. They couldn't get the best of Jerry West let alone the Western Conference.

    1. T-mac lobbied hard BEFORE we signed Swift.
    2. I never blamed T-mac for Swift's failure to live up fans expectation
    3. However it proves the fact that T-mac endorses Battier-Gay trade doesnt mean it's a good deal.

on one hand, i think like most of us, Tmac likes Battier the player... and as i said, I think we all do

on the other hand, i think tmac is aiding in damage control, because the team asked him to.

He may very well like Battier the player, as I do (but against the trade), but the Rockets unless they have a great plan to fill the roster with really good role players have dug themselves in a deeper hole

Tmac wanted Stoudemire and stro, and with a healthy team, they could've done well.

Its not his fault that the team was injury riddled, and he and Yao and Stro didnt get to play together much.

In preseason, they did, and showed some nice flashes of what they could've done, but last year the team absolutely was not on the same page as JVG... well except Bowen and Juwan, and the fans dont want either one of them.

    What else can TMac say?

"Battier is not worth Gay+Swift. He is not good enough.CD & JVG are stupid."

TMac is always a great person and he will never say anything negative to his new coming teammate.

But the truth is he will never be the leader we need on the court or in the lockroom.

T-Mac should say screw the management if they don't rescind the deal then rescind my trade from Orlando.

A guy like Shane Battier can be had for one MLE, and we give up one MLE and one No.8 lottery pick for him.

Our lottery pick is robbed by Jerry West.

And didn't Hubie Brown say nice things about Stromile when he played for him in Memphis as well. I like Shane's game but we gave up 2 cars to get that old model.

Rudy Gay will be last years Charlie Villanueva, Gay is more athletic and has the same range on his jumper as Villanueva. I can't remember a UConn guy that came out of the lottery that wasn't a pretty good player in this league. I think it may be as soon as next February that we regret this trade because Fratello will play Gay with the Grizz.
