Isn't there something more to this 8 minutes stuff? There is a reason that under no condition has he player more than 8 minutes. It's not because they are being "cautious" with his knee
It is clear they are trying to get him to play hard to EARN his minutes....right now, he has not done it. And in the meantime they are showing other teams that he is relatively healthy. DD
lol what do you think it has something to do with insurance again? Tracy can't prove that he can play half court offense, half court defense, full court offense, and full court defense. The team figures they can boost his trade value slightly while not hurting the team in 8 minutes.
I think they do want to show other teams that he can play but the limit of time and being so set on it makes me think there is a financial reason....
The insurance pays off when he "Doesn't play"........ I don't think there is any payoff for and 8 minute or less stint. DD

yeah, they're showing teams that he can play. but you have to remember that adelman didn't want tmac playing with this team. he said he "couldn't imagine" how he would fit tmac back into the rotation, and cited chemistry and success as two main reasons not to mess with anything. when chase went down adelman was asked if this means tmac will finally play, he said no. then something changed his mind. i think the team is forced to showcase him if they want to trade him... however, adelman doesn't want to mess with chemistry or success. so he only plays limited minutes. i see this situation as a compromise between management and coaching staff.
Exactly what I think too. And if somehow Tmac came out and started playing hard on both ends of the floor, I think Adelman would be forced to play him more minutes because he would help the team. Right now, he is just treading water, not really helping, not really hurting.... DD
Tradey has not shown Adelman in the 8 min that he deserves more than that. SIMPLE AS THAT. Only Tradey fanboys think he has shown enough to deserve more.
Rick is just worried that TMac may hurt his chances at COY. It looks better to have 50 wins without any "star names" contributing. It's not like Tmac is going to be here next year anyway. It's ONLY about next year's contract for him. However, Trevor is really starting to worry me.......and so reducing his minutes to get TMac more time is fine by me. My dislike for Trevor is almost reaching Rafer levels.
I don't see much of a reason to celebrate this and kick McGrady over it. Personally, I just hope this announcement followed a healthy sit down with McGrady spelling out what it will take to increase his minutes. The last thing we need is for McGrady to go black on us and start acting out. That said, I do agree that five 2-pt games out of 6 and a lot of coasting on defense to store up for offense don't merit getting his starting position back. I keep seeing folks insist that McGrady can't prove himself in such limited minutes. That's hogwash. A shooter coming in for a 2 minute cameo has a valid gripe that he can't warm up. But a full, straight 7-8 minutes? That's what many starters work with in their first "shift."
Emjohn, This will never end well...because the Rockets need Tracy to play hard, but they don't need him to win...... And Tracy needs touches to get numbers to get a new contract. The two sides are about as far out of alignment as possible. Tracy and the Rockets need different things........no way Tracy would want to be a role player and no way the Rockets let him be a volume shooter. It is just oil and water......a bad mix. DD
You guys are gonna look really stupid when Tracy comes back and shuts you guys up once and for all. -Tradey Fan circa 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009...
Here's what I think it is. I think they want to show that he is on the road to recovery. They don't want to play him extended minutes because he can only perform in spurts. At his current state, he is a shell of his former self. They don't want to expose all his weeknesses (unable to play half court offense, half court defense, full court offense, full court defense as H-Townbball has stated). But you know his free throw defense has been outstanding!!!
Your missing the point IMHO. Eventually his talent will overcome his physical handicaps at the momment. Also eventually his body will get stronger and he will be the old T-Mac. The T-mac that makes his teamates cover for him on defense. The T-mac that admitted to quitting on his team. The T-mac that has never ... You know what? Never mind. I'll just wait to eat crow when he gets out of the first round
