We have 4 inches up here in Jonesboro, AR already and it is not supposed to stop until next morning and it isn't supposed to get above freezing until Monday. White Christmas, WOO HOO!!!!
What?? You don't like dangerous driving conditions, sanded sludge, black ice, bad drivers, and shoveling??? Hollywood glorifies winter wonderlands. Johnny Mathis never shoveled in his life.
Seriously, what is the fascination with cold weather and snow? I can't go outside and exercise, and I'm holed up in my apartment after coming back from the gym. This was my 2-week xmas vacation from work. I wanted to spend time outdoors, doing things I only dream of doing while holed up in my office overlooking the city. THIS SUCKS!!!!! especially since all gyms are closed on Christmas and I have to run outside at Memorial park in sub-freezing temperatures. Gimme humid muggy days over this anytime. At least I can enjoy the outdoors then.
I know what you mean, drapg. I have never quite understood the fascination with it, either. Nothing cracks me up more than to hear people say stuff like "I wish it would come a blizzard!!" Well, if they seriously sat there and thought about it and looked at the ramifications it would have on their life, they would realize how stupid that comment sounds. Like you said, you would not be able to get out of your house/apartment. Even if you were brave enough to try it, you would have driving problems. Plus you have some places that are just pure evil when it comes to this type of stuff and make you take forced vacation despite the fact that you don't want to risk your life driving on ice. To me the only good thing about snow and ice is if you are a kid and you have no responsibilities or cares in the world. Then it might be a good thing to have but even then you are going to have to make up the school days that are missed due to snow which a lot of times means goodbye spring break.
I actually made it here and was able to post. It was a pretty scary drive up through Mississippi, though. The northern part of the state was covered in ice. We fishtailed a few times and had to take it very slow. And we were still luckier than a lot of people. Fortunately they seemed to put sand/salt on the bridges and, closer to Memphis, on the roads. There's a light coating of snow over Memphis; it's actually packed onto the street so driving is bumpy but OK. We wanted something to eat but everything had decided not to stay open tonight. Makes me glad I live south of here and don't get to experience too much of this.
The good thing about being holed-up in the winter during Christmas season is that you're bundled up with family. I think that's cool (although it looks like it'll be tough for me to make it to Houston for Christmas right now). If you're a single guy looking to exercise for the Holidays, I can see the problem. lol. Damn, I hope I can make it to Houston. My entire block's yards and houses are covered in snow at the moment here in the DFW area. Woo hoo.
Wow, snow in HOuston......that would be crazy. It's roughly 57 degrees out here today. Doesn't look like it's going to get colder. or hotter. BUt it's beautiful out there in the great ol KSA.
Oh the weather outside is frightful But the fire is so delightful And since we've no place to go Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
That low pressure area looks like it could move just south of us and stir up snow and sleet. For days, no one thought it would do it, but I guess they are revising now. 40% tomorrow before noon and then quieting down after that. I'd recommend getting up EARLY if you want to see the white stuff. It won't hang around long and likely won't stick. The good news is that the temperatures will be cold enough for snow, but not anything that will freeze pipes or ice over roads - at least not in town.
as a relatively new home owner (2 years now) this thing freaked me out for pipes alone. i think we're talking about lows around 21-25 Friday, right?? when do you start worrying about pipes freezing??? i wrapped my pipes last night to prepare for the next few days...overkill???
Well, I hope you snow loving freaks are happy. I get up this morning and my driveway and road is completely iced over. So, I get out in my car to drive on it, thinking the main roads have been cleared. Um, nope they haven't. See that is the problem with wintry precipitation this far south - it snows about 30% of the time with the remainder being ice or sleet. And driving on a solid sheet of ice is not fun, I say it is more harrowing than anything else. I used to be like a lot of you - always hoping for this stuff. Then one day I went off into the median of the Interstate (thanks to black ice). Funny how when your life is at stake causes you to re-think some things.
Well we had our little snow “blizzard” yesterday here in Dallas, not it in the freaking teens. It ain’t all bad except that I had to come to work. I would assume the same system that hit us is heading your way
When Jeff says that we actually have a chance to see some snow, I take it seriously. I know that you're a weather buff and none of these other jokers on the bbs really know what they're talking about.
actually it's different..our precipitation is coming up from the gulf...but the stronger push of cold air is coming down from your way.
