He's not stupid? Frankly I've rarely ever seen a lower IQ player than him on the court. He's Marbury-level stupid imo. Never knows whether it's the right time to pass or score. Terrible at setting screens. Terrible at team defense. Terrible with his movement off the ball.

Doesn't seem to be smart off the court either given how his career is going. It was always clear his future is dependent on his team play and defense and he's improved 0% at that in like 6 years.

Teams just don't want him in their locker rooms, and clearly, that's based on his track record of behaviour.

    Tons of guys like that.

People that try to coast thru life, some can, some cannot, some do it better than others.

And he does have an ego.

This is why no team (and no fan, other than DD and Yetti) wants Wood.

Wood is hopeless because he doesn't understand basketball on offense or defense.

If he's your center, your guard will get blitzed in every PnR because Wood will never actually set a pick and immediately dive to the basket. If you made the difficult pass over two defenders he will get a dunk, if you don't he will pout, if you turn it over on the pass it doesn't affect his stats.

You will actually never be able to run a play because Wood likes to randomly stop the ball and jack up random jumpers. Yeah he makes them sometimes but it f's up the entire offense

On defense he never knows where to place his body to contest, when to box out, when to contest without fouling.

I don't think Wood is a lockroom cancer, he just really doesn't understand or think about anything other than "put ball in basket".

I would argue that he has better character than KPJ, yet we re-signed him for multiple years based on talent. Why not give Wood a shot af Garuba’s old role? Only major negative I see is we’d have to listen to Hollins annoyingly say “CWood” 50 times a game.

I doubt Christian Wood ever becomes this self aware.

Are there reports of him being a cancer? Outside of the stuff here, which could just be frustration from being on a bad bad team with no direction. Are there reports from other teams? Or is everything based on tea leaf speculation?

Most guys like this are literally broke by the time they're 40. It's an expensive lifestyle and most "investments" they get roped into aren't investments at all. Just businessmen siphoning whatever money they have left.

It's why they all get duped into crypto, liquor, minority stakes in sports teams, stupid electronics no one buys, sodas, production companies...etc etc.

Other than these points you make, would you offer him a big contract if you were an NBA GM or owner?

The best part of the Wood trade is we picked up a couple SRP picks by moving down a bit in the first round. And, according to many on this board, SRPs are invaluable assets, never mind the fact that you can literally buy them.

I don't believe picks are valuable at all anymore, other than to stack for a trade.....the value of picks has been so degraded over these last few years and our team is so young, we don't need to DRAFT anyone for 3-4 years.

This article from when Houston first signed Wood detailed some of the professional issues in his early career. Wood acknowledges the reports, but says he was young.

    https://www.theringer.com/nba/2020/11/24/21591549/christian-wood-houston-rockets-nba-free-agency

Didn't sound like anything outrageous, but a lack of effort from a young player trying to make it in the league isn't going to make a good impression. Also, Wood says he was encouraged to work harder after watching Giannis during his stint with the Bucks. Sounds great, but he recalls this story after this breakout with the Pistons:

Seems like a very rude response to a former coach that he admittedly didn't play hard for who is praising his improvement. Frankly, if a player is cut by five teams (including a Chinese team) it's either a lack of talent or major professional issues.

Different type of issues. Kpj has passion and fire but blows up at times. Wood is selfish and lazy all the time

Wow. That video was amazing. I can't believe he was that honest and accountable. If he's figured that out, I'm surprised he can't get a better contract now. But then, the league has really evolved since bigs like him were the standard.

He played 15 minutes in the Lakers loss debut vs Denver.
    3 for 4 with 7 pts.

Didnt I hear something about him being promised a substantial role for the Lakers?
