The mavs don't want wood to pair with a guard like luka why the tf would we ever want him back? Man plays no defense, man doesn't set screen, doesn't rebound, he doesn't want to play as a big man. It's just mind numbing how wood fans like maj21 and double slobber over wood ignoring his weaknesses as a big man and trash sengun for the same reasons. Wood is a locker room cancer there's a reason why he's been through so many team, even if he's "talented"
Wood is a skilled player who lacks complete awareness of himself and team concept. I can't trust people who would want Wood on our team. Surprised to see Heat show any interest. Over confident in their culture maybe
I know his attitude sucks, but he really really really must be bad. I mean offensively the guy can put the ball in the basket, but he doesn't like setting picks and is a black hole that disrupts the flow of the offense. Defensively, just absolutely terrible.
But but but the advanced stats dorks swear he’s good. He’s going to thrive in Dallas they said. Luka will get the best from him. Rockets gave this loser the biggest deal he’ll ever get
If he simply tried to do the basic tasks for a big man he would have easily gotten the MLE. As it is all in his head, the talent is there. Oh well, hope he enjoys the smell of Dallas while waiting for more than the minimum.
Attitude is probably the most important factor. Numbers don't always tell the whole story. Hassan Whiteside averaged 2.4 blocks and 12 rebounds in Miami, but was in the doghouse because of his poor defensive IQ and unwillingness to play within the team offense. He complained about his playing time and his touches. After averaging 16p/14r/3b in Portland he could only get a minimum deal with Sacramento the next season despite being healthy and only 31 years old. He plays in Puerto Rico now. I'm sure people are impressed by Wood's stats, but there's a good reason he's still unsigned. Maybe he's waiting for a max contract from the Spurs or something.
[ The NBA - especially under the new cba - is probably going to have 2 classes - has big $ guys and rookie/vet mins. Even if Wood is 1.5x as productive as your replacement level vet min, its unlikely a team wastes the salary cap on it.
Stone / Tilman took that 20$ mill that Wood could have received annually and gave it to Brooks And based on how Udoka wants to build the team I guess Stone got lucky because at least Brooks is going to give max effort on defense and will set some solid screens, and combined with that dog mentality is much more needed right now than what Wood brings to the table offensively
