I think it is def a good value, it is only 13M a year which is actually extremely reasonable given the extremely shallow FA. Wood is seen as one of the top, if not the top, FA available.

Tbh I'm surprised Detroit let him go for such a small amount. If Wood got offered 18M or so I'd understand but 13M for a 25 yr old starting caliber stretch C (at least)? Brook Lopez makes 13M and he is 31, averaged 13 and 4 with very little defense. Surely Wood can do that as well here in Houston.

The only issue with Wood has been his maturity. There's a reason he bounced around despite his sky high potential and even NO waived him when he averaged 15 ppg for them and needed a stretch C next to Zion. Hopefully he has matured by now and maybe Tucker's toughness ans professionalism rubs off on him.

How is his stamina and durability? Any injury concerns?

Good thing we got a coach good at player development, I guess.

Harden has a new pick and roll buddy. That’s something he missed when Clint was traded.

    Thanks for the read!

But I'm confused as to why Detroit didn't try to keep this guy, if he was so good.

3/41 to the Rockets probably means a Detroit contract would have been 3/45 or 3/50ish because Detroit is nowhere near contention, but even still. This guy is quite young and has a bunch of potential. Not to mention you got to see him for 60+ games up close and personal.

Why did Detroit not sign Wood?

Would love to pick up another C to have the versatility to go either big or small.

We could start the game with 2 bigs. Then move Woods to C for Westbrook’s (without Harden) minutes.

    How you doing fellas lol.

    I’m kno scout

With that said watching his highlights which when I watch guys who are not superstars I don’t take make stock.

but the stuff he does in his highlights don’t look like things he can’t do all the time. He’s very talented offensively with his finishing around the hoop but he can dribble the ball and is really quick and has AD level outside shooting.

he’s a really good fit with Harden but not russ imo. That’s the kicker, Russ needs to go for some role players even if it’s not fair value.

I don’t get hyped up for stuff like this but I think he could put up 25 and 9/10 next to Harden.

now on D I don’t know I think he can get 1.5-2 blocks and a steal a game but he gets lost a lot so that’s the problem with him.

offensively I think he’s really good next to harden tho.

I don’t like the hyperbole AD comparisons but he is very talented on the offensive end and he’s only 25.

next to Harden I like it a lot by himself I think he’ll put up numbers with no winning I don’t think he’s the kind of player that can win you 45+ games a season as the lone guy.

overall good get because I think it’s interesting that we have a guy that’s this big this long this quick that can dribble and has real talent on the offensively.

I'm hoping PJ becomes a bench player. He is not at his best when averaging 30 mins a game.

Think of it this way, Pistons signed the more proven player in Jerami Grant instead.

After losing Capela the team was sorely missing a dependable roll man. Capela was good for... like seven dunks a game? Wood will get that many. If he plays with Harden he'll get 5-10 dunks a night. He can still finish when collecting a bad pass or going over set defenders.

He can attack the hard closeout on his three attempts. Any team would be happy to have him, but last year's Rockets team would have made him a 22/9 guy for sure. This year... we'll see who's still playing for us after trade deadline ends. He needs to be matched with a great pick&roll handler/low thrower whether that's Harden or someone else.

The Rockets signed the premiere free agent of the offseason. Who was expecting this?

Well doing more research, but so far it looks like he wanted to become an all star but also win.

Say what you want about Houston, Detroit is stuggling to stay out of the lottery and get a playoff spot in the East.

Speculating but the writing may have been on the wall and Detroit signed Grant, who has a longer track record and Plumlee. At least with a sign and trade you get something for him rather than nothing.

If Harden and Westbrook stay, you are automatically on a championship contender. If he becomes an all star like he wants to and has the potential for at only age 25 or so, then you have the makings of a possible big 3.

And also a fan base and team that has wanted him for awhile.

Also he definitely still has things to prove as a player, but he's consistently gotten better over almost a season of games. If he keeps working hard with consistency, he can definitely be more than an all star imo.

The guy seems real humble and his past experiences really seemed to shape his drive

The biggest thing I won't miss about MDT and Morey. Got tired of seeing our players become stars elsewhere. The list is too long...

Lowery, Covington, Harrell, House, Dragic, ... list of players that got traded or cut and blew up somewhere else.

How is the loss of those players related to D'Antoni?

He was not even the coach when Lowery, Dragic or Covington were originally on the team.

And he had no say in losing Trez when he was packaged for CP3.

As for House, he became a starter under MDA and he is still on the team.

Throwing D'Antoni's name into your rant against Morey is disingenuous.

Well they come part n parcel. One reason Morey keeps getting vets is cuz MDA never plays young guys. How long did it take Clark and House to get PT? Rivers also complained when MDA didnt play him in favor of another vet, one time he was already about to go in and got yanked.

Maclemore is the only young dude I know who got PT immediately, and thats prob cuz we only got Green at the deadline. If we got Green to start the season Mclemore prob wouldnt have gotten played.

I feel like I'm living in some alternate reality sometimes.

The gyrations CF has to go through simply to smear a coach who they don't like is mind boggling.

Your reasoning does not substantiate anything that I refuted in @ipaman original post.

Agree with you about Morey. It’s amazing how many young players and draft picks he gave up over the years to bring in average veteran players that never panned out. I was OK with trading Capela away but not going all in on small ball while giving up another draft pick. Personally, I don’t get excited about watching games where plays jack up over 50% of the shots from beyond the arc. Basketball is much more exciting with players that can get up above the rim for dunks and blocked shots.

Russ was Shaq like efficient at the rim.

And Covington INCREASED the shot blocking for the Rockets.

In the playoffs, RoCo averaged 2.5 steals and 1.2 blocks. Not since Ben Wallace, another undersized 5, has that happened.
