Christian Wood has a contested rebounding percentage of 29%. His contested rebounding percentage is similar to SFs and guards. Among players that average 10 or more rebounds, Wood is 2nd last in the list, just in front of Julius Randle.
His documented character issues have plagued him his whole career and we have seen it the past two seasons he’s been here. The emphasized head shakes, the beating on the chest after a dunk and not running back on defense. The public comments made about wanting to be more involved. The poor body language and facial expressions when pulled out of the game. All of these leads me to believe he is the same person and player he’s always been since his UNLV days. This was always the concern coming into draft night and even today. Egotism and self centeredness are not ingredients to a successful and winning player. This is why Wood hasn’t gone further and why teams have stayed away. Character and a good spirit will take you a long way.
Banchero would be the franchise if we could some how snag him. Finally a legit starting 4, which the franchise has never had. We build our team around Banchero, and the point guard or playmaker we can find.
Though massively different in the sense that Dwight has actually been a top player in the league and dominated his opponents for most of his early career. Wood is someone who didn't get drafted and had sporadic playing time and struggled to stay in the league. It's actually insulting to Dwight to compare him to Wood, like massively.
well i mean, it's all relative. is he a franchise player for the nets? no. but for the rockets right now, probably. hell kevin martin could come our of retirement and be the rox' franchise player tomorrow
to those who actually had faith in Christian, Idk what to say to those who would still want to pay him a big contract, I have no words he’s not that guy…never was, never will be
with a real coaching wood would be much much better .... everybody looks bad under silas..the guy is clueless...and not playing people to their strenghts...heck he even benched his best player last game lololololol
Wood currently is not worth a max contract. However, the offense should more or less run through him, because he's arguably still the best offensive player we have. So his recent comment, despite the way it came off, is not wrong. In a vacuum, if there's no ego and if he's not looking for a max, I'd be happy to resign him if he's willing to take the same money. I honestly wish Stone could find out sooner, if there is a slim chance this is true. Otherwise, Stone should be listening to offers. I think Wood is currently an asset on the team, but if Wood personally cannot self-assess correctly or make it known to the Rockets sooner that he's not looking for too much money; then it will get awkward. Stone is likely thinking what we're thinking that he needs to shop Wood. This is a case where the GM and a player on the team should have periodic communication and interim performance reviews. Know where each other stands. Maybe Wood is maybe willing to the same money. Maybe he likes being in HOU. It offers him stability, he can rest in one city and truly stop being a journeyman. Also he has regressed somewhat in production. A less money example of someone who didn't resign: Olynyk left Rockets to another bottom team in the Pistons, where he's on the bench (less playing time), only 2 mil more. The GM and the player's agent didn't see eye to eye. Olynyk was a Dipo flip, at the end of today; we didn't get anyone but a little bit of money freed up. Not resigning Olynyk is like sitting Wall, so KPJ and can run the point. At the beginning of the season and on paper that sounded like an OK idea. It's also possible things could change, but in the last two weeks we went down from 28th to 30th in offense in the league. Kelly said he enjoyed the offense here. Is he really happy playing for the rigid Casey and coming off the bench? Is Rockets happy having the worst offense in the league? Both parties are worst off.
run through him...not now, not in the future. wood is our top scorer, actually he can be a prolific scorer on any team, but man, his ball handling, his FT, his incompetence on defensive end of floor really really scare the **** outta me...not mention his attitude problem i.e. his reluctance to set screen for our guards, i hate to say it (he fit in so well last year), no matter what, just let him go.
fire silas! wood is a diamond....silas just tanked his value imagine if we had gary payton ii you would be calling for him to get cut because silas dont know how to use such a diamond
hes is a diamond...its just that he needs coaching...hes not a player you give free reign or give ball to and ask for buckets... he needs the system and ball in the right places and he needs to be held accountable on defensive end...he could be a defensive beast... nobodys looking good playing for the worst coach in the world on warriors under kerr and in their system he would be a perrenial allstar if we had draymond green youd be calling for cutting him because hed look more than terribl;e here under silas
