You made a little leap from what I wrote...

    (Pardon the typo.)

There is nothing in that post that suggests I think violence is the only thing that will change people's minds... I did say that such thinking is considered by those that engage in the violence.

    Oh yeah?

You say it wouldn't change without the violence; how could your position be more narrow?

Do you believe there was a political aim behind this killing?

To follow up on Sweet Lou's questions I'm curious then if you consider the IRA actions done in Northern Ireland as not being terrorism but as resistance and their actions done outside of Northern Ireland terrorism if you are waging complete war on an opponent why wouldn't targetting the enemy also not be considered resistance?

It seems to me that under your reasoning you could say fighting Al Qaeda on US soil is legitimate but hitting Afghanistan is terrorism.

You're not asking me but I'm going to say "no." I think people that do something like this are doing so, ironically, to just save lives. A dead abortion doctor means fewer abortions being performed... by their reasoning. I would imagine that they consider it does have a longer-term political impact as it contributes to the discussion of the issue but I don't think it has much of a near-term political consideration.

THe problem with ruling out a political angle and saying it is to save lives could also be applied to all sorts of killings and not political. Palestinian suicide bombers often cite that since almost all Israelis are required to serve in the military that killing Israelis, even civillians, is saving Palestinian lives.

Thank you for your response though and I didn't mean to narrow it to Basso but would like to hear his response.

Can't we just get the Christian terrorists and the Muslim extremists to line up and duke it out?

Let them kill each other off, so the rest of the world can live in peace.

Why? Thieves, cheaters, liars, murderers, and all sorts of other people go to church - all of those things are things the church clearly opposes. Isn't the entire idea of the Christian religion that everyone is a sinner?

Yeah...I hear a lot that gays "can't get into heaven."...I've always wondered what makes their "sin" more offensive than others.

edit: apologize for the digression, I don't want to change the subject in this thread.

Jesus preached against the rich... how many pastors are out there for the $$$, taking huge paychecks and living in mansions?

    Where's the verse(s) on abortion?

where are you getting this info?

from hearing A LOT that gays "can't get into heaven" to having abortion "beaten into your head" I am presuming that you either attend one loopy church or you don't attend church at all and are just throwing out some malarky other people have passed along to you.

A poster over at Balloon Juice shared his personal experience with Dr. Tiller. I thought it was worth posting here-

This reminds me of discussions of what constitutes as a hate crime.

I guess we could all sit back and wait to see the motivations of the suspects, but there wouldn't be much debate in the meanwhile.

Why are you so certain? I thought all you needed to be a Christian was to accept Jesus as your lord and savior? That's what the evangelists tell me. Why can't one do that and be a murderer too? Then, if he does happen to be saved, Jesus will have faced justice for him and the murderer will get mercy, right? Of course, he'll probably face some punishment in this life.
