I think we can all be glad that you aren't in the field of education.

You are amusing, but hardly educational. And definitely not well informed.

FranchiseBlade, do you know that the dumbest and the most uninformed people are in the field of education? Smart people are too busy producing real tangible things instead of filling our children' heads with your liberal nonsense!

Somehow you are so proud ... that the dumbest and the most uninformed people are in the field of education ... and that smart people are too busy producing things instead of teaching students

Yes, teachers aren't valuable. We've seen that the less educated societies are always better. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Of course without an education you may have no idea how societies fare with less education as opposed to those with more education. Furthermore you may be ignorant of how individuals fare compared to those with less education.

You also seem to be ignorant of the fact that teaching facts such as hip hop being a huge influence on society that is purely American yet was adapted world wide. It was an American import of culture that is perhaps the greatest since Rock & Roll if not Jazz.

It is a fact, and has little to do with liberal or conservative. Unless the old adage that facts have a liberal bias is true.

Your statement about dumbest people being in education shows your lack of understanding. Was Albert Einstein dumb? He was in the field of education. With your bizarre ideas of what is and isn't dumb you might think Einstein was an idiot.

I'm proud of Texas and being a Texan. Just not everyone or everything in it.

Yes College professors are the dumbest and most uninformed people on the planet. Institutions of higher learning never do any research or invent anything. Engineers, scientists, etc. these people just come out of the womb producing real tangible things.

I guess every invention was produced in a garage by a college dropout like Bill Gates? Or could it be we all know that story because of how unusual it is for someone like Gates to suceed the way he did?

Nah that's just all of that liberal nonsense again...

There is nothing wrong with this. If republicans cannot win elections and the will of the people, they can at least make it look like they did.

I would do the same any given day of the week.

Why are people ok with having a text book publish to a certain political opinion. should we be giving kids facts and let them for form there own opinion.

I think there's probably a lot of misinformation in this story, as a couple of the Democrats on the SBOE have traditionally lied about these meetings, a lot. That being said, I thought this was really funny:

I laughed. It's funny because this is actually what people think.

The Texas State Board of Education is expected punish former US President and Enlightenment figure, Thomas Jefferson and fine him $500,000 for off-color comments about religion and religious leaders (especially Christianity and catholic priest); John Calvin; and the separation of church and state. The Board believes that some of the former president's comments were overly derogatory to certain faiths, while his liberal support of the separation of church and state may create an environment of favoritism to non-religious institutions and individuals. Furthermore, stating that such comments could be insensitive to children who are of the particular faiths that were derided by President Jefferson.

The Board showed some of his comments to concerned Texas parents at last Tuesday's meeting:

-- Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781-82

--Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, January 24, 1814

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Mrs. Samuel H. Smith, August, 6, 1816

-- Thomas Jefferson, to Levi Lincoln, 1802. ME 10:305

-- Thomas Jefferson, to the Virginia Baptists (1808) ME 16:320. This is his second kown use of the term "wall of separation," here quoting his own use in the Danbury Baptist letter. This wording of the original was several times upheld by the Supreme Court as an accurate description of the Establishment Clause: Reynolds (98 US at 164, 1879); Everson (330 US at 59, 1947); McCollum (333 US at 232, 1948)

-- Thomas Jefferson, Reply to New London Methodists, 1809

-- Thomas Jefferson, letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper, February 10, 1814, responding to the claim that Chritianity was part of the Common Law of England, as the United States Constitution defaults to the Common Law regarding matters that it does not address. This argument is still used today by "Christian Nation" revisionists who do not admit to having read Thomas Jefferson's thorough research of this matter.

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Horatio G. Spafford, March 17, 1814

-- Thomas Jefferson, to Alexander von Humboldt, December 6, 1813

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Horatio G. Spafford, March 17, 1814

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787

Thomas Jefferson, letter to Richard Price, Jan. 8, 1789

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823

-Thomas Jefferson, Letter to Correa de Serra, April 11, 1820

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Short, April 13, 1820

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams, Aug. 15, 1820

Thomas Jefferson, letter to Ezra Stiles Ely, June 25, 1819

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to General Alexander Smyth, Jan. 17, 1825

My kids are in the public school system in Houston (SBISD) and, for the most part, the parents and teachers are great. My daughters do happen to go to an exemplary school and are in the GT program, but I can honestly say they are getting a good education. They are also well-rounded and well-traveled and are up to date with current events and issues. They also have me to thank for that. If, as a parent, you don't agree with something in the textbook, talk to your kids about it. Share with them your views and opinions. If there is something not included or not touched upon in the textbook or a view which you think is not represented fairly, by all means talk to your children about it. Part of an education is learning to debate the issues and forming your own viewpoints and opinions. Go Rockets!
