I couldn't listen to Underoath after Dallas Taylor left. "They're Only Chasing Safety" came out, and I was so disappointed. They moved so far away from the dark roots of their first two albums. Dallas went on to Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, which of course could only come out with one or two decent songs. Same thing happened with Josh Scogin and Norma Jean/The Chariot. NJ was great with Scogin, and then fell apart once he left. The Chariot's first album was awesome, very raw, but none of the original members are still there, besides Scogin, and he's taken them in an even more religious direction. I love old Underoath, The Chariot, As I Lay Dying, Becoming the Archetype, Haste the Day, Zao, etc. I don't know about rap, but Christians can lay claim to some pretty good metalcore. Though, I still think Converge, Hatebreed, Cannibal Corpse, Atheist, Behemoth, and Cattle Decapitation are better...
Some of my favorite Mars Ill tracks. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pYUOK9AVmZM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pYUOK9AVmZM&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tOIeLq1Z3Ow&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tOIeLq1Z3Ow&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Yeah thats how I first felt when Dallas left as well. But Dallas is a pretty horrible vocalist so I wasnt completely upset. I listened to Spencers old band, This Runs Through back then as well and I loved them so I guess it wasnt ALL bad to me back then. Out of all those bands, the one I still listen to is BTA. I guess I listen to some old school AILD but not much. Becoming the Archetype is just an amazing band. You guys should check out HORSE the bands new album, Desperate Living. Its the best album this year I have listened to. It has Jon Karel from The Number 12 looks like you drumming on it. TNTLLU is also a really good band.
Skillet - Hero <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uneeyPfKASo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uneeyPfKASo&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
HORSE is ****ing awesome. I've listened to other electro-metal, but nothing quite compares to Htb. I'll have to check the new album out, haven't been able to listen...although they have gotten better with every album.
Ha I was actually going to mention BTBAM in my post but didnt know if you liked them or not... I love them. Their new cd was a pretty big disappointment though. I love all 4 of their first full lengths. The Great Misdirect just disappointed me alot.. Its really hard to follow up Colors though. I think the same thing happened to He is Legend. I Am Hollywood is one of my favorite cds of all time, and their latest 2 havent come near it. Though their newest, It Hates You, is pretty good. The only cds that havent disappointed me this year have been the new Black Dahlia cd, HORSEs cd and He Is Legends cd. Everything thing else has been a letdown if I remember correctly. And finalsbound, you SERIOUSLY have to get it. This is their best work IMO. Its weirder than anything theyve done and it makes it awesome.
no no no, its christian speed/death metal the whole concept doesn't really make sense but whatever man, do what you like.
Da Truth is pretty cool, nice guy as well <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bsJwWTkCa60&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bsJwWTkCa60&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object Lecrae is pretty good. Tedashi is a from Huntsville, I believe. Sho Baraka is incredibel writer. They're both part of the 116 Clique. Canton Jones is a different style, very nice guy with some good songs - more musical. Christian Music isn't the same as when I was a kid. Even DC Talk was cheesy to us. It's much better nowadays. As far as the Hard music, check out Skillet & RED.
My favorite "Christian" song of all time...written and performed by a friend of mine from college named Robbie Seay. This song was used to advertise American Idol a couple of years back. The words in this song soooo closely match my own theology that I'm just drawn by it. I put "Christian" in quotes because I find God in a lot of songs and art in general where I'm not sure the artist intended Him to be. I also hate when the Church talks about a distinction between the sacred and the secular...if God is who we claim Him to be, then there is no such distinction anywhere in creation. I'd also suggest that there's a lot of music and art that seeks a Christian label that is just flat out awful...and without nuance. Without any subtleties at all because it's trying too hard to communicate a message so explicitly. I don't find that reaches me very well. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ml84-u-nATY&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ml84-u-nATY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

I certaintly did, and I'm nowhere near being a religious person..
