When I was much younger, I listened to a group called DC Talk...and then I got older and realized Christian Rap lacks more substance than mainstream rap. I'm a Christian, but no...I cannot/will not listen to that type of music.

I never really understood seeking out christian music to listen to. Do these people also seek out christian movies and books over their more entertaining counterparts?

Its simple, they don't want to listen to "secular" music therefore they seek Christian music. A lot of the more hardcore people would probably seek those other entertainment options you listed.

Music seems to be a lot more influential factor among teens than books and movies, so I think the church always pushes for Christian music rather than secular.

Music is extremely influencial, more then people realize. I listen to christian music because I like christian music and the effect it has on my mind. My mood is always better.

sorry for the double posts, but yes, i seek out christian movies and books also, but i find these just as entertaining as the secular choices. I still listen to secular music and read secular books and watch secular movies, but i prefer christian based entertainment.....

I know where you are coming from, I use to listen to nothing but Christian music. I went away from that phase after my first year of college though.

Yea, as soon as I graduated high school the Christian music stopped, and my faith has been struggling in general. Now I'm trying to get back into it and start listening to the music again is a small first step.

I love gospel. It's the root of most American music, celebrates freedom, and has the ultimate soul. The fact that it celebrates my god is nice, too. I like Blind Boys of Alabama best, but I love the big choirs, the Shirley Caesar-type wailers, and even the modern hip-hop gospel of Kirk Franklin.

Ah I see. Personally I went away from my faith altogether. I believe in God but that is as far as my faith stretches right now which I feel happy with. I agree with you, the music will get you far although it's always helpful having friends who are passionate about the word and such, even gives you more motivation.

It was sort of weird for me because I freaking loved Some seek forgiveness others escape. And back then I was all "man soft music is gaaayyy".

But when Define the great line came out I was extremely disappointed. I met them before DTGL came out and was on an all time UO high, so maybe thats why I was disappointed. Aaron used to be my drumming idol. He still is a very talented drummer, and musician in general.

Yeah, he's a pretty talented musician, especially for only having one working peeper.

To quote my own post from last Tuesday
They were forcing the Steven Curtis Chapman on the group. They were forcing the Michael W Smith. The Newsboys. the Clay Crosse. I was like, I guess its this DC Talk's turn now. But consenus was they had a catchy song but were kinda lame. So said okay then... OKAY I wont go across town to the more secular friendly church with the more "nicer" christian girls...
