That's possible but I think we're going to have to DH Yordan a lot. Altuve has lost a lot of his range but there's nowhere else to put him.
I bet they move Altuve to LF permanently whether they bring back Bregs or not. They truly value infield defense. You're going to be seeing a lot of Dubon at 2B, that will make the infield defense close to elite if Pena bounces back with the glove. I believe Pena will bounce back because Walker will make a huge difference in the infield defense and Pena in particular. Seeing Abreu and Singleton over at 1B really made me appreciate Yuli.
Moving Altuve to left would be an interesting experiment. I guess with the Crawford boxes they might be able to pull the it off. I think Pena will bounce back. He was just off for whatever reason but you're right that it would be an elite defense. Yeah a Yuli was great defensively. Abreau was terrible and Singleton is who he is.
He could start in a strong line up. His defense is really good. I guess we'll see. A lot of moving pieces
On that front, on Chandler Rome’s podcast Joe Espada said that Brice played 2nd in Puerto Rico and insinuated that it looked like his natural position.
That's interesting. Appreciate the info. If That's where they inversion him then I'm sure they've already talked to Altuve about it. It would be nice to have his speed in the line up
I'd say Dubon was a regular starter for the Astros in 2022 after they acquired him through the regular season. It changed in the postseason.
He was excellent to start 2023 when Altuve was hurt, but he simply isn't an everyday guy. Great guy who gives you lots of options and freedom on the bench though.
He would be if they had another big bat in the OF instead of Meyers. He's going to be a placeholder until Matthews is ready. Whitcomb a 2nd scares me.
No We really needed a CF who can hit RH pitching and relegate Meyers to the short side of a platoon. You don't simply throw away a guy with his skills. But you can't have him starting 100 games either, unless your other 8 starters are like the 2019 Astros.
I don't mind him as a defensive replacement and spot starter but like you said he can't start 100 games on this team
It is going to be so weird to see him in left, I don't question him being able to make the catch but the thing that makes me nervous is his height. He would be the second shortest player in MLB just behind Jorge Barrosa who is 5`5 and Jose is 5`6, the caveat was Jorge played 8 games in 2024 with a .176 BA When I see pics like this I get a tad nervous, albeit this is an extreme example
John Cangelosi who played for the White Sox amongst other teams was very short and he was a very good defensive OF. Altuve being able to get to flyballs, even in the gaps doesn't worry me. The arms of all of the OF'ers is going to be what makes this team an 85 win team at best. They need to add an OF. Best hope is one of the young guys comes through for them. It's been a long time since the Stros have been in this position and this is strictly on Dana, he could've made moves to have the money to add a solid vet OF. best they can hope for now is some form of Gamel/Dezenzo/Melton coming through for them. I know Dana is supposed to be great at evaluating talent, but as a GM he's still got some growing to do.
vs Jeff Juden, who was about 6'9" https://www.facebook.com/AllSportNe...s-puños-entre-expos-y-astros/506682276819731/
I agree with this, Meyers is a Jake Marisnick player but he is getting George Springer playing time because we have nobody else.
