All your broken arms and Tommy John’s are belong to us! BREAKING: Orbit out for the season, will undergo Tommy John surgery BREAKING: Bobby Dynamite (aka Astros Train Guy) out for the season, will undergo Tommy John surgery Astros’ law of Tommy John: for every one pitcher you get back from Tommy John, one must go out with Tommy John
welp. it is what it is. these are the times will show what Dana Brown is made of. Luhnow and Click were able to find pitching gems. Us fans can only hope Dana Brown will do the same.
Ok. This isn't anything all (most) other teams are going through. It may be time to make an offer (it's gonna hurt) to Miami for Luzardo. It's just that starting pitching is more valuable than ever now so it will be very expensive, but at the same time it's riskier than ever. Framber, JV, Blanco, Brown, and Arrighetti should be fine until Garcia and/or McCullers can provide some insurance. It's just going to be very dicey if any of them get hurt or even miss a start in the next 6-8 weeks. In case of injury who is an option? Blubaugh? Robaina? Bullpen game then some optioning? I don't want to see Henley again.
Like your optimism, but I think the Astors aren't going to make any moves and wait to see how close they are to the division lead at the deadline. I feel they are okay with chalking this season up as a down year and not pushing it just for an outside chance of making it to the playoffs. Does anyone really care that we didn't make the playoffs in 2016 right now? If the Astros play their hand right, and make the post season in 2025+ then 2024 will look like a blip in no time.
Didn't Brown say he was fine? Bummer. This season needs to end already. This rotation has pitched a lot of innings.... it happens when you go to the ALCS 7 straight times.
Just what the Astros needed !!! /sarcasm This appeared somewhat obvious after the delayed MRI results. If Ronel can continue his play, he can replace Javier's production. We need JV and Framber healthy and productive. Brown and Arrighetti need to continue their surge. Garcia's and McCullers' good returns would be helpful. Pitching should still be top tier. Astros have been blessed with a few multi-inning guys out the bullpen with Martinez, Dubin, and Scott to eat innings. Espada just needs to play his cards correctly and not be foolish. Hader is ballin and Abreu is playing well enough and will prob improve too. The offense needs to do their job. I think the RISP is mostly bad luck that won't last an entire season. Astros still have enough to win another championship.
This has been known for awhile now. He tried to comeback and it just didn’t work. Signing pitchers to extensions is really risky. Astros have dodged some bullets the last 7 years and now it’s catching up to them some. Abreu, Javier, McCullers, Verlander all have either been bad deals or missed substantial time with injuries. Oddly enough, the bull on the staff is the one without an extension. Springer and Correa have also been really bad. Cole hasn’t been bad but injuries are creeping up with him too. I’ll give Crane this much - he usually limits the damage to only a 4 year deal. Javier could still end up a good deal. His arm clearly hasn’t been right since last season. He would lose velocity, fatigue and require a lot of rest. I expect he will comeback very strong if they can get him in a workout routine for the next 12 months.
On a side note - I know Brown said the Astros are looking for a bat… I have heard the opposite for nearly three weeks. The Astros want arms - they can be starters, middle relievers or leverage relievers, they aren’t picky as long as they are good.
Never too much pitching has been on full display this season. We came into the season with 8 MLB starters and 2 more expected around midseason. The 8 couldn't even make it to midseason and we're down to 4 of them. We are running extremely thin to put it mildly. I'm guessing Blubaugh or Colton Gordon would be next on the depth chart.
Somehow, Dana is saying The Astros are going to buyers at the deadline…. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/mlb...tempts-to-right-ship/ar-BB1nCpef?ocid=UP97DHP
