Pardon me if this has been discussed, but I haven't seen it mentioned. Assuming the Nuggets decide to waive Whitney, would we be interested at all in picking him up off waivers, and would we have the money to do it? I believe he makes $3 million a year, and I'm pretty sure that's what we'd have to pay him, and if that's true, I don't think we can afford him. But I'm not a cap expert by any means. It just seems bringing in a new point guard couldn't hurt matters much. He doesn't approach me as the type of guy that would demand the ball.
Tito Maddox is a joke compared to Whitney, and I personally think Whitney is better than Moochie, but that is subject to debate in this arena. The Nuggets traded for Shammond Williams, and they've decided to stick with him. Really, this is a situation where they're trying to clear cap room, much like just about everything else they've done this past year.
Not a bad idea. If he clears waivers, we (or any other team) would only have to pay him the minimum- the Nuggets would pay the rest. Whitney is a small guard with a rep as a scorer, and a pretty good shooter- he shot over 40% from 3 point land last year, and is over 36% for his career. He also has a solid career AST/TO of 2.6, easily better than anyone currently on our team. However, unless we plan on completely phasing out Moochie, which is doubtful, I don't see minutes for him here. However, we're a tweaked knee or a migraine headache away from needing him here.
In case you're interested, here's thelink. And here are Whitney's stats the last 4 years. He wouldn't be any better than Moochie this season...especially considering that Moochie already knows the system!
