what the heck i'll play Kings advocate they obviously picked Peja over Webber for the next few years B Miller was awesome last year when Webber was out Peja also played much better last year when Cwebb was out, but can he deliver in the playoffs 62 million over 3 years for one player, so i guess you take what you can get, but agree some picks or expirying contacts would have been nicer Since the knee injury Webber has been terrible on defense as for the Sixers, damn that is a nice one two veteran punch in AI and Webb and then add to that some nice youth in Dalembert, Korver, Igodala, W Green, Barnes but damn they need another 4, surely they will take MO
i can understand that the kings wanted to get rid of webber(i'm not a big webber fan, and he is verry expensive) but they could atleast get something back for it. Like alot of others said atleast dalembert. Or first round draft picks. Ok the kings still have an ok team, but why throw webber away without getting anything in return?
I agree that Philly wins the trade but I don't think it was as lopsided as many say. C-Webb is getting older and has lost a lot of his athletic abilities since his latest surgeries. Yes he can still put up numbers but the kings figure they have never gotten anywhere with C-Webb why not see if Peja, Miller and comapny can step up? Let's see which/either team can get in synch with the new players in the next few weeks.
Wow, I'm shocked as well. I see where the Kings are coming from because they've had a good record the past few seasons when Webber was out of the lineup but damn. Like I say to other people in fantasy leagues, it's fine if the players you get make you better, but you should ship out the ones for as much value as you can get. Man.... Maybe, the Kings know something about C-Webb's health that no one else does. Great trade for the Sixers.... if Webber can last 3 seasons... Oh but wait, when's the last time he played a full season... oh yeah, never. Closest he's been to achieving the feat was 75 games in '99.
That's how negative he was for the team. For two years now, they've been actively trying to get rid of him. They'd lose him for a bagel if someone would be willing to take his suicide pill contract. -They knew Peja was gone if they didn't get rid of Webber. -They knew the team chemistry was shot because of Webber. -They knew the offense fell through the floor since Webber went gimpy but still demanded all his shots. -They saw how bad Webber gets eaten once April/May rolls around. Did they get killed by this deal? All I know is this tells you what the offers on the table were like. If I'm surprised by anything, it's that Isiah didn't put up a better matching offer (Tim & Kurt Thomas). I suppose he really did mean it when he said he was going to wait until next year and trade all his expiring contracts. As far as where Philly stands at this point, they definitely are juiced for the playoffs and should get the 3rd seed easy, but I doubt they get by the Heat or Pistons. Webber should come in with a chip on his shoulder and play fantastic for the rest of the year, assuming he understands that he's a number 2 guy from here on out. High P&R's w/AI are going to be lethal. The downside is, Webber has never shown that he can lead a team in the playoffs and is a notorious 4th quarter choke artist. And I would put money down that he walks into their locker room and starts running his mouth loudly from day 1. High risk, big cajones move by King. Addition by subtraction by the Kings. Evan
Don't get me wrong..I think Kenny Thomas could be a nice player, but they got Webber without giving up AI, Dalembert or Korver. .... .... Wow.
Man I just realized one guy on my fantasy has both peja and webber. I think their fantasy value has just increased on both . He might come from behind and win our league. Check out his lineup. G J. Kidd (NJ - PG) G V. Carter (NJ - GF) F P. Stojakovic (Sac - SF) F C. Webber (Phi - PF) C C. Mihm (LAL - FC) Util D. Jones (Mia - PG) Util A. Kirilenko (Uta - F,PF) BN E. Jones (Mia - GF,SG) BN A. Stoudemire (Pho - FC,PF) BN D. Howard (Orl - PF)
Rasheed was a "cancer" last year, a me-first player who the Blazers were more than willing to be rid of for pennies on the dollar. He seems to have done OK in the East. CWebb is a better player, and less of an attitude. Philly has too many holes for Webber to make them an instant contender, but they just locked up that division title.
How in the world do Kings think Peja can carry the team? They choose Peja over Webber, but IMO, If they trade Peja combined with somebody, they can get much better in return. No expiring contracts, no draft picks and no youth included. Unbelievable! OK, let us trade Spoon and Ward for Mike Bibby! I bet Kings will love this trade to death.
As Clutch said, I just can't believe they couldn't do better. Nothing about Webber being traded is surprising. I know the Kings have been trying to get rid of him because of the chemistry problems and what-not. What's surprising is that they couldn't at least get a first-round pick or something. Heck, Taylor, Howard, and Spoon IS a comparable offer to Philly's and if CD turned down a deal like that, he'd be fired.
Reasons why this move was made. -Tyra lives in Philly. -The Maloofs are set to buy the Sixer's. -Greg Ostertag forced the trade because Sacramento is HIS team. -AI wants to prove that not only is he a ballhog with average teammates he can be one with All-stars too. -Liberty Bell rhymes with "Chris is not well"
Wow. It seems so lopsided but it does make sense. They want to make Peja happy. He's the younger and healthier of the two. I understand how people could be wishing we'd have pulled this off, but there's no way the kings would send Webber packing for a bunch of scrubs in a deal with a Western Conference team. They had to send him to the East. No doubt. I can't believe they didn't even make out with a draft pick though.
those other reasons might have something to do with it. but let's be honest...these were the KEY issues.
Refresh my memory: was Rasheed on the downside of his career with a destroyed knee that'll never heal? How much money was left on his contract? And how many All-Stars demanded to be traded from the Blazers because of him?
First Shaq gets banished to the Heat, now CWebb gets chucked to the Sixers. These guys should start their own "unappreciated big men club." If Orlando picked CWebb over Penny, I wonder how many championships Orlando would've won with a CWebb-Shaq combo.
actually they did . .. then traded him for penny if i recall correctly. but it would have been nice young strong frontcourt Rocket River
Do you think Peja's happy that his team traded away an All-Star and got a bag of beans in return? I'm sure he'd have preferred to get some help on the roster from this trade.
For a guy with a "destroyed knee" on the "downside of his career", CWebb looks damn good out there. I think I'd take his 21/10/6 over Sheed's 14/8.
