Since CP3 signed first, did he know all along that Dwight was signing in Houston? Some members on here thought/knew DH would end up here well before he signed on the dotted line
Again, this would not have been possible. Even if we shipped out every player not named Harden for nothing in return but picks, we wouldn`t have had enough cap space to sign both Howard and CP3 - because those roster spots cost you about 480k per spot. The only way to get Howard and CP3 would`ve been a sign and trade - and the question is, if either the Lakers or the Clippers would be open to such a trade, that creates a western conference powerhouse for at least the next 5 years if not the next decade...
i mean every free agent/possible trade aquisition across all sports has used houston as leverage.. so why not..
What's he gonna do if he doesn't agree? His only other choice would be to pick another team that has enough room to sign him outright. But those could be some bottom feeders. He may be better off just stay in LA.
Am I the only person who finds it interesting/odd that Bill Simmons is the only person on earth reporting this tidbit? Seems we would have heard it by now if it were true.
All after the fact.... At this point...who cares. Would have been cool, but what IS is, he didn't. No need in dwelling on what is NOT....only what is. We got DH, and lost NOTHING to get him. LETS GO!
Actually, if we cleared EVERY player but Harden, we definitely could have signed CP3 and Howard to maxes and been under the cap. The cap is what, around $58.5M? 13.7 + 18.6 + 20.5 = 52.8. The ~$490k roster spots, of which we will need 10 (only 12 really but the 13th one counts against you until that "12th" player signs) would be .49 x 10 = 4.9. 4.9 + 52.8 = 57.7. Heck, we may have even been able to barely fit Parsons' (or Bev's) salary in there! Now all that being said, the reality of it is still...it would have been ludicrous to clear all of that salary off the books and move that many players for free. A SnT w/ LAL or LAC would have made the most sense, or CP3 and D12 could have both taken sizeable discounts off max to player together w/ Harden here. Heck, Lebron, Bosh and Wade did it to win. I have no doubt CP3 would have been willing to be paid less to win...not as sure about Howard.
The pertinent question of accepting to being paid less is about "who am i being paid less for?" Ultimately for Howard here it was Anderson and Ohlbrecht, so Morey wouldn't have even asked, that's just insulting.
Paul is an idiot for going back to the Clippers. Yeah they'll make some noise on their way to a second round exit but that will be it. If he is truely a competitor he would have joined up with Howard, harden, and Parsons to take down the Heat.
