even i underrated him. he had a few good runs this season. scoring wise he shows promise. defense is good enough. but he's a terrible rebounder for a pf. not bad, but terrible. though he'll work in the offseason, i dont think he can be the rebouding pf that we need. plus if the knicks keep him he'll get 988k next season. why would they decline that? especially when stat is injury prone, and with those old geysers backing up pf/c? he'll be in a contract year and will probably have abreakout season.
Man, lots of jerks on here putting down this thread. Maybe he's not a great fit for the Rockets right now - that I don't know. But I do appreciate hearing about some guys who weren't on my radar. I'd much rather see a thread like this than ANOTHER thread on Josh Smith, etc.
No...I'd rather trade White, Jones, Smith, Ohlbrecht, Anderson for Ilyasova and keep Asik for later. That gives you an Asik/Ilyasova/DMo combo for assets to move on Love. Bring over Aldemir. Use second rounder on Reggie Bullock or Ricky Ledo or Glen Rice if one of them falls. Sign back one of Garcia/DelFino Let Morey do his magic finding guys. Dwight/Asik/Whiteside Ilyasova(or possibly Millsap)/DMo/Aldemir Parsons/(Garcia/Delfino) Harden/2nd rounder (Bullock or Ledo or Rice, Jr.) Lin/Beverley/D.J. Kennedy (this kid deserves a contract)
This teams problems aren't on the offensive end , even with the deficiencies at the PF spot .... The are at the defensive end of the floor (and rebounding). Look at what they got from the PF spot post PatPat .... Look at the results and tell me what kind of player they need there. Defense!!! Rebounding!!! & Run the floor ..... They need a Kenneth Faried type (or better). That player may be available .... but it isn't Chris Copeland. (Just my opinion , take it for what its worth.)
I thought we were already a good rebounding team. Also, I don't know if offense was such a strength when we didn't have Ppat or Delfino in at the 4, but I have no stats to back it up.
WTF these threads. If you thought PPat was bad at rebounding, your think he was Rodman after watching Copeland play.
We are not good enough on either end of the floor as it stands right now. Sure we scored a ton of points but that's regular season and a lot of our success was contributed to run-and-gun. When you get in the playoffs and you run into teams like the Memphis Grizzlies, that control tempo on you and turn the tables, you gotta be able to execute in half-court sets both offensively and defensively. We are not nearly efficient enough in half-court set offense. And we are not nearly good enough in half-court defense to be considered a contender. Those things both have to improve significantly IN ADDITION to our transition defense getting better.
I would rather stick with T-Jones... At least he can block shots and rebound. All these middle of the pack power forwards that are being brought up are not worth giving up on him.
Of all the names of players coming up in free agency & trade both this Summer and next year THIS IS THE GUY you want to tie up cap space with? LOL. no.... just no.
I've watched a couple of Knicks games and most of their playoffs games, and Copeland really doesn't do anything but score. If people here think PatPat was bad, they're gonna rip their hair out when they see Copeland just stand there watching a rebound go into the hands of the opponent.
I don't disagree with the overall sentiment of the post but does Chris Copeland solve any of those issues ?! What I was getting at is they need a guy who defends well , rebounds well , runs the court well , can finish at the rim consistently in the PnR (that's not TRob) and can force a double team from the post in the half court offense. The ideal guy for me at the PF spot would be Zach Randolph but he's nowhere near available ...
Thanks for this reply, I was looming at this issue particularly when I suggested him. Everyone knows the sexy names but much like the way we got asik, I feel that is what dmorey will try to do time and time again. I agree he doesn't fit right now with our holes but I said I wouldn't mind see him on our team if indeed Dwight came over. Just mathematically obtain Howard will probably go the sign and trade route. That would mean we prob loose a few bigs. It is also know that Dwight needs shooters on the floor to succeeds. He isn't a shaq type player. He is more Shawn kemp in my opinion
Sorry for the crappy grammar I am replying on my iPhone in Asia. So I guess I adopting the broken English. Lol.
You're basically describing a young Tim Duncan. Sorry, but the kind of big man you want (and we all want) is simply not realistic. Maybe someone with one or two of the skills you listed, but to have all those skills would make a player a bonafide star. I can't see us getting another bonafide star YET.
