my only problem with those using the bible to justify their point of view is, what about all the other things the bible says that any sane person ignores:

"'Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves."Leviticus 25:44

"You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day must be a Sabbath day of complete rest, a holy day dedicated to the LORD. Anyone who works on that day must be put to death."Exodus 35:2

"I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;[a] she must be quiet."Timothy 2:12

If you dislike gay people, fine, just don't hide behind a religious text book that is obviously flawed...

I didn't see the full context of Broussard's statement. If he was asked what his personal opinion of Collins was then while I might not agree with it I don't see a lot of problem with it and don't think he should be fired, or suffer otherwise professionally for expressing an opinion that he was asked to give.

That doesn't mean he isn't free of criticism though.

As far as the substance of his comments not being a Christian I don't feel I have a say as to who is and who isn't. Anyway I gather that there is a lot of disagreements among Christians about whether one can be Gay and be a Christian.

Certainly everyone should have the right to say what they believe but as I said about Broussard that doesn't mean that they are free from criticism or challenge. "Tolerance" and "criticism" aren't the same for instance tolerating LOFs isn't the same as not calling LOFs idiots.

Broussard is entitled to his opinion, but he's still ignorant and wrong.

Did you choose your sexual orientation? Are you saying that your are attracted to both men and women and choose to be with women?

My sexuality wasn't a choice. I am attracted to women and not attracted to men at all. I suppose I could "choose" to be a homosexual, but the idea of sex with a man doesn't sound so pleasant to me, so it's probably not a realistic choice.

You failed when you began literally believing in a 2000 year old fiction book.

I respect chris broussard for his bravery and not hoping on the bandwagon of some christians saying it's okay when that contradicts their teachings. Jason Collins is also supposedly christian, and it makes me wonder how he calls himself that if he disagrees with what the bible (who they believe is the word of GOD) is saying about homosexuality. Most christians are just pick/choose when it comes to their beliefs.

Example... bible says not to eat pig or drink alcohol, yet most christians ignore this. You won't see us Muslim saying it's okay to eat pork, but you will have christians saying it is.

Also something else, a little off topic. But I think the reason why christians don't really care about the rules in their bible is because they have been taught that Jesus died for their sins so it doesn't matter how many sins they do, they'll go to heaven anyways ---->that's their mentality. so the gay christians say it's okay to be gay when the bible says otherwise because they believe they go to heaven by saying jesus is their lord and savior.

To be fair, the idea is that Jesus was resurrected and lives ever more in our hearts and minds, if not in the physical.

That said, I left elementary school a long time ago personally. Most are stuck there.

they believe jesus is God although there is no verse in the bible that says word for word jesus saying 'I am God'

Interestingly enough, the bible says Jesus prayed with his head on the ground. If Jesus is God, I wonder who he was praying to...himself?

I wish I could as easily believe in fairy tales as religious followers. Life would be amazing and damn fun if I thought middle earth was real.

I'm not mad or overly critical of religious people. I still believe in God and Christianity laid the foundation of my beliefs. But you have to grow at a certain point and being stuck in an ideology that never changes and teaches the same ideas over and over (whether true or false) only allows so much growth. And really, you can almost say if you're not moving forward, you're moving backwards.

If people had the courage to consider new ideas outside of the box, they may actually expand their mind but they either don't want to or are too afraid of criticism to lead a new path. Most people have the heart and some more have the brain but they lack courage to go down the path of enlightenment to find the true God of love hidden behind the curtain (and yes, the Wizard of Oz has many meanings, including theological ones).

What you say of Christians would be true if they had a fundamentalist translation of everything in the bible.

Yet it ignores that Jesus himself broke what people thought the rules of the old testament were. He was accused of healing on the sabbath. Jesus had a lot to say about that kind of interpretation and carrying out of the law. He said that people who carry out the letter of the law but don't abide by the spirit of the law were missing the point. He also said that he didn't come to abolish the old testament law but to fulfill it. Now if he's supposedly breaking the sabbath but at the same time fulfilling the old testament law, then it seems that the people who hold those laws to be hateful, cruel etc. might have had their ideas wrong.

I'm only going by what Jesus did and said.

Yet you want to say that people who see those laws like Jesus did are just picking and choosing. Yet again a follower of Christ would try and emulate Christ's way. So you see where whether they are right or wrong some Christians might see the crusade against homosexuals as something contrary to what Christ himself would do.

It's not so cut and try... unless of course you believe only in the least contextual and most fundamentalist teachings of the bible.

    He isn't dead.
Those that hear his voice understand and those that don't...well I hope and pray that one day you will.
