Sign of the apocalypse: People within the Rockets reading a thread started by DaDakota. PS -- This link from the sporting news mentions the third year for Jackie Butler would be a team option: http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/PabloDeTejas/89700/
Well, that pretty much puts a bullet in this thread. Kinda cool to know that somebody in the organization is interested in the pulse of the people.
Clutch, I was not complaining about taking Butler's contract on, I was just lamenting that because we cut him we would not be able to use the contract in addition to other expirings, because I was under the impression we still had a year left to pay him.... Good news on Butler......it must have been a buyout situation etc, but I thought that still counted against the cap, maybe it was a players or team option etc...that was bought out or not picked up. That still leaves Reed......but that is not as bad as I initially thought...... I actually think next year we are in a much better position than this year....but...that depends on what contracts we take on this off season and upcomming year...either via trade, draft, or free agency. If they are smart, and I know they are, they are subscribers to all of the DD threads........DD not only speaks in 3rd person, but he also is looking out for the good of the franchise, regardless of how popular a player is...or was. DD is only one letter away from DM, which is only one letter away from GM, you know. DD - DM - GM PS. Les, I am still looking for investors in my video games digital distribution company, email through the board for an executive summary.
I didn't say he would love to come to Houston, I said that since he is opting out we should go after him. And he may be interested in the right team with an MLE deal...you never know.... A lot of teams do not have the cap space to offer more than the MLE....so it would have to be a sign and trade for him to get more money.....and he would be in a position to decide where to accept a SnT deal.....and if one can't be worked out, I would not be surprised to see him take a one year full MLE deal with years 2 + however many more at players options to protect against injury. He is probably tired of losing and would like to play for a winner...... DD
I have no idea whether Ws and Ls matter to him as much as $s and PT. But, and I believe this is correct, one's MLE contract cannot be opted out before year three is complete. Assuming CM does opt out I have to assume his representative will have worked out whether he is returning to LAC on a new deal, entering into an SnT, or wink-wink agreed to a UFA with a new team.
You could be right but I found this definition on another site. The Mid-Level Exception: This exception is available for every team to use each year. It will be in the 5 million dollar range for 2004-05 season and can be used for contracts up to six years in length. It can also be split multiple times to sign multiple players. DD
Taking this info with a grain of salt since it's from a blog... http://thesilverandblack.blogspot.com/2007/07/spurs-offseason-comes-into-focus.html
Xiki, Come to think of it.....regarding the MLE.....Steve Francis and Bonzi both had player options in year 2 as part of MLE deals...they didn't get the full MLE but they got a portion of it...... So, I think you can do a player option for multiple years past year 1 of the MLE. DD
Both deals were two years. In a 5-year MLE I still believe the opt-out cannot occur before the end of year-3. I wish I could be declarative, but I believe it is true. It may pertain to any contract five (or six) years in length. BTW - whom would you give the 'full MLE' to if it remains (unLandry-ed)? I think I'd go Pietrus first. 1/2 MLE? Gomes. Maybe more. I'm not sure if I am all that 'hot' for any other???

You are the last one to be talking about player biases. Luther and Chuck suck. I would actually keep Chuck for cheap, though, as an end of the bench guy because of his hustle. When I say cheap, I mean dirt cheap.
Now I remember why I had you on ignore. Silly me for taking you off. But since I did get to see this post allow me to respond. I, more than anyone on this board, know exactly what Chuck's strengths and weaknesses are. I have followed him and watched his game change over the last 7+ years. I also wonder that you are responding to what I said instead of what he said just to irritate me. It won't work today.. it's Friday. As to the post I was responding to in this instance, it was obvious he wasn't thinking like a GM or discussing the topic of the thread, which is deadwood contracts. Instead he was saying that cutting Luther and Chuck for no reason other than to leave space for a trade they hadn't made yet in Green (or Butler as a third C) and to keep Justin Reed was the way the organization should have gone. Chuck and Luther are two players that the Coach thought was good enough to start at points during the season so they can't suck that bad. If you agree with that idea to cut them was the right move you are as delusional as he is.
Hey, they don't read your threads..... When I want your opinion, I will give it to you. DD PS....If you think that I take any of this seriously you are nuts.........I am just having fun with it.....
nice to see the Rockets squash yet another misinformation thread That's right. It's all about being the passionate fan. So, someone in the Rockets office needs a new nickname for squashing this thread--The Passion Assassin
Oh, come on now.....you are going to hurt DD's feelings. DD was just commenting on the info on the web, why do you have to treat DD so rudely? (sniff) What happened to the sunshiny HP? We miss him. DD
