That's true for bigs who are lob threats , like the Capelas and DeAndre Jordon's of the world. It is much less the case for shot creating centers, such as Sabonis, Embiid, Jokic, Sengun, etc

I guess we agree that Sengun shouldn't be popping out of those pnr plays. Whether that's the coaches being stupid or Sengun not wanting to roll, he needs to aggressively roll to the rim on pnr possessions. The one thing that might be a justification is that when Green gets trapped after a screen, it's better for Sengun to pop just for a passing outlet out of a trap as the angle to pass to a roll man from a trap is difficult especially for someone like Green who isn't known as a great passer out of doubles.

    Yeah, no disagreement there.

Harden is great at those pocket passes to the short roller though. Like, an all time great at it.

If Jalen and Jabari see no improvement, or minor improvement, then no. If they both improve a lot it could probably be a play in team. This also assumes Harden doesn't fall off a cliff, which could happen any year now.

I would prefer to do Harden and trade for just bridges from the Nets, draft Miller if we are at three. Fill in with a few other vets that can shoot and hopefully play a little defense. Harrison Barnes might be a guy.

    Harden
    Green
    Bridges
    Jabari
    Sengun.

    KPJ
    Barnes
    Miller
    Tari
    Garuba
    JayGup

Rest trade for future picks or vets.

Definitely it's more true for guys like Capella than Sengun due to Sengun being a significantly better self creator than guys like Capella.

But it's still relatively true compared to a guard. Even for elite self creating big men like Embid, more series of events are required. Establishing clean post position that close to the rim where Sengun thrives is difficult. We had this same issue with Yao when he was young where his post up opportunities were limited from a combo of incompetent guard entry passes and Yao still learning how to establish position. Its a battle down there for bigs to establish position. Sengun has like these 1 second windows where he has position and timing has to be near perfect with the guards for a clean entry pass.

Like it would be great if we could spam 15 low post possessions for Sengun but defenses hone in on that and will start fronting and other tactics to prevent establishing the post.

Without substantial improvement, any team that has both Jalen Green and Jabari Smith Jr in the starting lineup isn't sniffing the playoffs. I definitely hate the idea of trading away Sengun. I also hate the idea of drafting Amen Thompson because that dude is a terrible shooter. I'm also assuming we're giving back all of the Nets picks along with Sengun to get Bridges and Claxton?

I guess what I see here is a team in which the best player is a rapidly aging James Harden and the second best player, Mikal Bridges, was the fourth option on a team that failed to win in the Finals. So Basically if Green and Smith don't pan out, we'd be back to a total rebound in another couple of years.

    I'd pass on that.

The talent that you give up here is no where near enough to get someone like Bridges.

It would have to be someone like Jabari who even though had a bad rookie year is 19 with still hope as a 3rd overall pick. And obviously Sengun or Green would get you Bridges but that would be too much on the Rockets end

Yeah, I don't disagree too much with any of this. But, Sengun's passing and ability to process the game is a game changing factor in this context. When teams overload to deny the post up, he's smart about being able to take advantage of what is opened up by that defensive adjustment via a quick pass or setting an off ball screen and directing the offensive traffic. A lot of bigs who are efficient in the post don't have the ability to punish defenses for overloading to deny it.

So, being able to score efficiently there OR create other efficient offense when the defense adjusts, that is one of the things that makes Sengun special.

Sign Kenny Atkinson, trade Clips 1st for a 2nd + future 1st, trade Christopher for a future 2nd, trade KPJ & Tate for Harden S&T(4-year max), Sign Cam Johnson for (4/110 last year a TO), Sign Drummond with room MLE (2/11). I'm assuming we're drafting at 4 or 5 due to the lottery odds, draft a Thompson twin with it for the upside, draft Jordan Walsh with the newly acquired 2nd. Sign a few bench-riding vets for the culture.

    Rotation

    Green / Thompson
    Harden
    Martin / Eason
    Johnson / Smith Jr
    Sengun / Drummond

Young bench: Washington Jr, Garuba, Walsh

+ Whatever 2 or 3 vets willing to tag along for the min

All picks are kept intact, pushed this year's Clips first down the road, and weakened BKN by signing Cam Johnson to a stupid overpay.

    Omer Asik and Dmo.

I guess you could call Dmo a stretch big but he only shot 30% from three for his career.

They kept Usman for matchup purposes in the playoffs, the idea being he can switch onto guards in the pick n roll

Also because he has a contract and nobody in their right mind is going to trade for a 6'8 C who is ground bound and has nothing at all offensively

I believe they gave up Sengun, KPJ, 2024 nets pick and 2025 swap in the deal. They also gave Harden the bag with a 4 year max. That max deal hurts the cap situation for extending our picks from 2021/22 but not the picks for this draft.

They talked about your guy JGup playing backup 2 and finding a niche as a ‘Marcus Smart’ like on ball defender. Amen can’t shoot but they were saying he’s a Green-level athlete and great distributor.

Correct, the two options were keeping him or cutting him, they were on the fence

No to any team without Sengun. We would regret it for at least a decade.
