I usually defend Yao but ... in this game ... he sucked ... he was the main reason China lost.

That would not be a high percentage shot. If you look at his shot charts, he shoots no better than 40% on average outside 10-12 feet from the basket. And that's when he's just taking straight ahead catch and shoot jumpers. If the Rockets relied on that shot for the bulk of their offense, they wouldn't get as many three point looks, they wouldn't shoot as many free throws, and their offensive efficiency would plummet.

Its because people don't want to say what everyone see. I say it and I'm a hater. Yao doesn't give a good target. When he gives a good target, he can get the ball. Francis and Mobley had no problems getting dream and barkley the ball, but they struggled to get yao the ball. Yao doesn't spread out to make hinself wider. When guys see a narrow target that yao gives, guys don't want to turn the ball over.

This is 100% correct, Yao on the move is a skinny target....he spreads on the low block, but even then, not enough.

Although, because he is so tall, it is harder for him to be a wide target because players can simply duck under his arms.....he is not.....Girthy, enough.

Everyone has their strong / weak side, and Yao is not a exception. When you are 7"6, people would expect you to dunk over people like it's nothing, but at the mean time, a 7"6 guy will move slower than others. So Yao Ming is Yao Ming, we just cannot compare him with other great players in NBA. We all know his movement problem is always going to be there, and so is his condition. That's what the coaches are here for, try to keep him fresh to finish off the game.

How people forget. Yao usually average around 25ppg and 10rebounds in International competitions. The guy is obviously NOT 100%. He only managed enough time to workout and isn't in game shape yet.

My biggest concern is. Will Yao ever recover to 100%? How will he help the Rockets? Has he lose his skills?

Man I really hope yao can play like his old days when he's back with the Rocket. Something tells me that he'll be likely injure again. I hope am wrong.

My god, I'm sorry but you are such an idiot. Rafer had no problem getting Yao the ball. It's obvious that Yao is not that mobile. There are smart guards out there that can make Yao game easier if they know how to get him the ball. I mean what's teh point of being a freaking guard and make your big man do all the work for you so you can just stand there and pass it to him?

Please enough with Francis and Mobley. Their basketball IQ are pathetic. They are not defending Barkley adn Dream like they are defending Yao. Most of teh time I see they physically pusing Yao really hard and the refs don't see it because he's big and heavy adn they let it go. If they were defending a guy 100pounds lighter exactly like they are defending Yao, that guy will go flying.

It is sad that Yao thought he could make those jumpers. Every time he falls in love with his jump shooting, his team is gonna lose. No, you don't shoot jumpers before softies like Paul or Okur.....

    Wha??

Did I just imagine all those fourth quarter collapses the last couple years when T-Mac wasn't on the floor to control the offense?

Guys, Yao didn't play well. Period. His team could have won if he had shown just 50% of his usual ability. Rusty is the only possible excuse for him last night. Stop defending him.

This tournament is looking more interesting for China after this game. If they can compete with Spain with Yao not having a good game, it certainly bodes well for their chances against Angola and Germany. I don't think Greece feels particularly comfortable about China nowadays, either.

I thought Yao played fine.....in the 1st quarter.

But he can't keep it up as the game goes along. the guy's obviously out of shape.

I'm just hoping Yao doesn't reinjure himself. Trying to get back into game shape by playing at such a high level of competition so soon after surgery... watching him fall a dozen times a game is stressful :(

I see they didn't have much problem feeding him the ball the first 2 to 3 quarters. The team collapse in the 4th quarter because of under Van Gundy style in which the team didn't know what to do when Yao is being agressively defended and denying the passes.
