Pau is simply another 7 foot pansy that stands around the perimeter facing up for the jumper when it comes money time in the playoffs. That won't get it done. He won't bang in the paint. Everyone knows when you get to the playoffs, it's about getting to the rim, the defenses are too good, they have to be broken down, the winners are the teams that get to the rim the most frequently. And when a 7 footer is facing up from 18 feet and launching the jumper, and not being aggressive creating and absorbing contact, and not rebounding, they are a non-factor. It simply doesn't matter if they somehow put up 20-25 points. They are simply taking points away from the perimeter players and not adding any positives on the interior where they need to be a factor.
If Yao and Gasol cancel each other out, we should be ok. We beat the Lakers with Yao and Gasol out, last time. Their biggest weaknesses are Derek Fisher and their bench's defense. I can see the Roc
I don't want to troll or anything but Yao doesn't move fast at all in fact he never has even when hes healthy. hes like Brad Miller in speed movement.. and hes in the same rate as Pau in physical aspect. so Pau is a very bad match up for Yao.. I'm sure everyone agrees
Fortunately with bynum impending return, yao will not have to face gasol anymore.. yao V Bynum and luis V Pau....
If Yao is hurt he is hurt. I just don't like how Yao makes a big issue out of playing in the olympics and comes out and plays weak. Losing is losing. They had a chance to win today and should have. He should be very dissappointed in his performance. Make your shots it's as simple as that.
Somewhere along the line, I was expecting McGrady to come out and take a contested 3 point shot, and make it.
Of course hes a monster but all I said is Pau is a bad match-up for him.. almost every superstars have bad match-ups. it just means you're human!
You are a douche man. Yao is putting everything on the line for China. If you cant see that and applaud it then you shouldnt be watchign basketball. The guy was absolutely out on his feet, playing against formidable NBA talent AND just coming off surgery AND just coming off a game against the US. Yes they put themselves in a position to win the game, and yes im sure they are dissappointed they lost, (it doesnt take an expert to realise that my friend) but Spain are a top 3 or 4 side in the world while China will be lucky to get out of the pool games. No-one expected them to get close, yet they did, and whether Yao's line was good or not, if it wasnt for his presence and leadership they would have not even been there at the end.
hahaha... or rafer wow. ive read the boards everyday but rarely post. i do remember reading alot of people going on about how china is developing some nice guards. love to know where they are hiding them? this is yao's home olympics and his team is making him look stupid. u get a pass into the post and yao kicks out out of a double for an easy 3. then some idiot who struggles to bring the ball up the court tries to drive the lane and turns over 3 straight times. i live in HK and my whole work place stopped to watch the game. wat a dissapointment. and nice game for Wang Zhi Zhi. dude had better handles then his point and better jumpers than Yi.
FWIW pau has traditionally slightly underperformed against yao. granted these numbers are not going to be an exact way to figure out how the players performed when solely guarding each other since it is only the box scores but it is something to look at. http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/h2h_finder.cgi?request=1&p1=mingya01&p2=gasolpa01
Cool I live in HK too. The chinese are developing nice guards, but they're just turnover prones. They struggle so much against full court pres.
REALITY Yao is hurt and playing not up to his potential causing him to not be as confident as he usually is. He is doing to much. I don't knock playing for your country but gosh don't look like that (so weak) if you are playing with a spirit that says I'm putting it all on the line for my country. That is Yao in the olympics. Yao is still going to struggle late in games regardless. There have been only few and very few occassions where I have truly seen him show up late in fourth quarters. Other than that he has to find his balance and get his rhythm back for the NBA season and he will be alright now that we have Ron and Tracy out there... but Yao has to be aggressive and score, get those big rebounds and protect the paint when the season starts without that we are screwed.
I don't think Yao needs you guys to make excuses for him. Regardless if he's 100% or less than 100%. He plays with 100% effort, probably why you guys saw him falling down a lot. It is what it is. Just watch the man play and enjoy it (or not in some people's cases).
I can say all these negative things about Yao but I will say this Yao surprises me during the season every year. When he is on and in his rhythm he is unstopable. Do you know what channel the Argentina game is on... I'm ready for some Scola!!!
