I couldn't care less if Bateer is Chinese or Nepalese... I thought based on what I saw of him at the WBC that he was a big body that could bang and grab some rebounds. I thought he was worth a flyer for a second round pick. I guess SA thought so too. The Rockets interest may have been dimmed by all the BS they've gone through with Yao. I wouldn't blame them if it were. We'll get plenty of chances (if he makes the team) to see if it was a good move for SA or not.
I guess you are not that familiar with the basketball outside USA. The above quote sounds like the same argument from those Yao's hater. I agree those guards and coach in China NT are jk . But there are some good players with decent skill can play well at NBA level. Talking about Bateer, he actually beat Yao Ming won MVP award at last year's CBA all-star game.
Raving Lunatic:- You can't generalise about China in that fashion, you dont know and you have not had the experience to draw such a conclusion!! Also I take great exception to the low class street talk which you used to describe my chinese brothers and sisters! If your vocabulary is limited, and decent English is unknown, I will help you if need be?
Bateer vs. Cato? That's funny . These two aren't on the same level skillwise. Watch some Nuggets games before ya trash Bateer. Bateer: 27 game experience rookie. Cato: 5-year veteran. Bateer: Commended double teaming in his rookie year. Cato: The one who's always associated with doing double teaming . Bateer: Has range out to 3 point line. Cato: Has range out to 3 inches away from the basket(Ok. A lil exaggeration but you get the point. ). Bateer: Backs people down and gets to the basket by post moves. Cato: Camps around the basket waiting for alley oops and free dunks. Bateer: Shot FTs at 78% last season. Cato: Shot FTs at 58% last season. Bateer shot badly at 40% last year and had foul problems, which limited his minutes. They can be improved with more experience and better shot selection. He's a little slow on foot speed and not a shotblocker. Cato are better than him in these aspects, but factor in Cato's lazy attitude and his leaching off better teammates to pad his stats I'd actually dump him for Bateer if it's Ok. I'm tired of waiting for Cato to realize his potential while Bateer showed more skills in 27 games than Cato showed in 5 years.
I must have been in some kind of time warp...against the US team I could have sworn I saw Yao in foul trouble and Mengke taking it to Davis, Wallace and O'Neal on the offensive end. No wait...maybe I did see it and just forgot! Perhaps JamesC forgot as well. http://www.fiba.com/oneplanet/world/index_wmm.htm
Cato is by NO means lazy, and he does not pad his stats. Stop spreading LIES. Cato worked hard all offseason, before AND after the Rockets picked Ming, and then said that he'd be fine being a backup, IF it meant the team wins. Bateer played 20 minutes last season because he COULDN'T play more. He fouled out half the time, and was on the verge of fouling out every other time. In addition to that. his defense is non-existent. He has absolutely NO lateral quickness, and isn't a good shotblocker. I'd rather have Cato behind Ming, because if Ming gets tired, or can't play for whatever reason, I'd be horrified at the thought of Bateer starting and Collier being his backup.
Sane: I respect your oppinion, but I don't think I'm spreading lies calling out Cato as a lazy bum. My guess is half of the posters here agree with me on that. The guy has been a slacker and there's no sign he'll turn it around. If he didn't sack up in five years then what will change him? I just give up on him, his foaming on the mouth will happen again, only when he brushes his tooth in the morning.
Original post edited after reflection. Monkey, no offense, but the points you try to get across in your posts are tarnished by your utter disdain for Chinese players and Chinese basketball. I don't think people are really as deluded about the skill level of Wang and Bateer or the CBA for that matter as you claim. And I think your China-and-no-other-country-ain't-got-s***-on-us attitude just got squashed at the WBC.
