What I find humorous is that these same "wonders of capitalism" people fail to realize that these "American" companies are not really American and second, they don't give a **** about the USA other than the fact that there is a large financial market. I remember many people being butt hurt when Elon Musk spoke kind words about China and their work force. Musk doesn't care about the USA, he can ultimately move to some other nation..... what he cares about is his money and power.
It's called Capitalism. The studios and other corporations want to make money, and the Chinese market is the largest growing consumer market for their goods and services. The Republican party is an anti-democratic white nationalist organization who worships a false idol. However nobody on the left freaks out when Hollywood goes out of it's way to not offend people who voted for Trump even though Republicans notoriously are offended at everything, and think the Muppets are a personal attack on their freedoms. When Hollywood casts an enemy as a terrorist, they don't put a MAGA hat on the hat of a white guy who them bombs the Capital. The fact is Hollywood wants the most amount of money possible. That's the only point. They want Chinese money, they want liberal money, and yes.... they want Republican money.... as long as it doesn't cost them the much more profitable liberal money. They aren't going to placate to one minority group that costs them a majority group, and they only placate to China in movies in ways that is non-consequential to the plot mostly because as long as Americans, British, French, Africans, etc. don't give a crap that they changed something to not offend China... they'll do it. So the question to you OP is whether or not you have a problem with Capitalism or not??? Capitalism and the profit motive is what drives the decision. If you want it to be soley about American Nationalism in how American companies are allowed to operate.... well... you look alot more like Communist China then you do American Capitalism.
I think that's Rush Hour 1, where the former British Colonial officer ended up being the crime lord Jin Tao. FYI played by great Brit actor Tom Wilkinson.
LOL, yea. Look at technology. Same thing happens. Some changes were too big that manufacturers actually have different chips for the Chinese and the Russia market (another market where the gov do not want certain security or user privacy ability). If you want to sell into China market, you have to deal with the Chinese gov. Same with any other nations. Not sure what's the big deal. The concern should be censorship for the American market, not for Chinese market.
OP, whole movie was not changed. If it was, it would be a version only for China. Maybe that's one way to please both sides.
here’s the thing a car made for the Chinese market is only really different in the user interface cause it’s in a different language a movie made for the Chinese audience is changed for censorship and sensitive material or for promotional reason @Os Trigonum @rocketsjudoka @Space Ghost example was Looper In the original he wanted to go to France They added that he should go to Shanghai so the Chinese censors would give them a free pass for a car, say a Ford Mustang, they aren’t going to make the car have three wheels or remove the seat belts
China selling cheap vaccines to the rest of world rather than vaccinating its own people? maybe the vaccines they're selling are cheap knockoffs of the real thing. wouldn't be the first time https://apnews.com/article/china-vaccines-worldwide-0382aefa52c75b834fbaf6d869808f51 excerpt: Chinese vaccine companies have been “slow and spotty” in releasing their trial data, compared to companies like Pfizer and Moderna, said Yanzhong Huang, a global health expert at the U.S. think tank Council for Foreign Relations. None of China’s three vaccine candidates used globally have publicly released their late-stage clinical trial data. CanSino, another Chinese company with a one-shot vaccine that it says is 65% effective, declined to be interviewed. China’s pharmaceutical business practices also have raised concerns. In 2018, it emerged that one of China’s biggest vaccine companies falsified data to sell its rabies vaccines. That same year, news broke that a Sinopharm subsidiary, which is behind one of the COVID-19 vaccines now, had made substandard diphtheria vaccines used in mandatory immunizations. With Chinese vaccines, “for a lot of people, the first thing you think about is ‘Made in China,’ and that doesn’t give you much assurance,” said Joy Zhang, a professor at the University of Kent in the UK who studies the ethics of emerging science. Russia and India have faced similar skepticism, partly because people have less trust in products made outside the Western world, said Sayedur Rahman, head of the pharmacology department at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University in Bangladesh. “China, India, Russia, Cuba, whenever they develop a vaccine or conduct research, their data is questioned, and people say their process is not transparent,” he said. A December YouGov poll of 19,000 people in 17 countries and regions on how they felt about different vaccines found that China’s received the second-lowest score, tied with India’s. In the Philippines, which has ordered 25 million Sinovac doses, less than 20% of those surveyed by a research group expressed confidence in China’s vaccines. more at the link
It’s a movie to movie scenario obviously a small indie movie won’t change but a big superhero movie might because of the budget and pressure to make money
I haven't seen the Rush Hour series in years. If I remember Rush Hour 2 starts in HK but ends in Las Vegas. Ricky Tan is hit by a truck on the Strip and the Zhang Zhiyi character blows herself up trying to kill Jacking Chan and Chris Tucker. In Rush Hour 1 Jun Tao is blown up when he tries to escape the LA Convention Center and Jackie Chan throws an explosive vest into his helicopter.
when future car adds "unbreakable" security or privacy, there is going to be much more differences It's just the nature of the beast. If you don't want to deal with it you will have to give up the market. Or you can try to persuade the Chinese government to change their requirements - good luck with that.
I mean we had to deal with all those Chinese ads and jerseys from Les Alexander’s money grab reign Just prefer the movies to be of the filmmakers original story and intent It’s also obvious when you are a superior intellect and suddenly see a strange moment in the plot And realize that was placed there not for plot points but for censorship reasons movies can easily turn into music when the record companies will ask the artist to change lyrics
If Godzilla was suppose to destroy shanghai after tokyo It would be strange to see him trample Panama City next I mean it’s not logical that he spare China and had a beef with the Panamanians
