It could be worse, Yao could be playing for team USA.

jvg didn't quit on the knicks midseason?

    well that's the spirit.

actually, i don't really give a crap if yao is frustrated with his sorry ass team. nice to see he actually gets mad. now if he would just do something about it that would be even better.

Guys, this Spain team beat the same Puerto Rico team that beat the **** out of the US by 55 points just two weeks ago. Even Tim Duncan was having lots of problems with the zone defense P. Rico threw at him and he turned the ball over 7 times.

The Spain played a better zone defense against team China. Although it was not a match up zone as tight as Syracuse uses, it's a damn good zone defense. Most of the time that Yao got the ball, he was doubled. When he tried to get position inside the paint, there were instant double/triple teams around him.

Yao could have played better and I expect him the play better. But give Spain some credit. They played an excellent game today and could have defeated Puerto Rico easily if they play like that against them.

BTW, the translation is way off. Yao is just showing some huge frustration and told reporters that these other players are younger than him and he will retire before they do. I guess that he means everyone should cherish the opportunity to play at the Olympics for your country and he is getting tired of the same lack of mental toughness from his teammates again and again.

Excellent post. Great observation. This is all good. Yao is growing up, professionally and literally.

Next, I want him to yell at everybody when the Rockets fail to win the NBA Finals:cool:

This is not true. Yao Ming didn't say they he will quiz on the CNT, in fact, he will play to the level of extreme come this Tuesday.

On the translation, I stand corrected. We shouldn't make too much of Yao's frustrated comments.

But I just watched my tape of the whole game, and I have to say in no uncertain terms, Yao sucked. I can't even blame it all on the bad conditioning. Little guys blew by him, middle-sized guys snagged rebounds next to him, and he hardly moved. No energy, no aggression, no desire. Maybe he just doesn't give a s*** about international ball any more, in which case he should get out of it. But I can't square that with his pregame hype about making a statement for his country, etc.

The only fire I saw from him was on the bench, b****ing to Del Harris and his interpreter after he'd fouled out. He looked furious.

You know what, Yao? When you're down 25 points and out of the game because of bad conditioning and bad judgment, spare us the rage. The time to deliver the rage is when you're on the court with a chance to win. Otherwise, you're just another nonperformer with an extra foot of height. When you come back to Houston, let's see some wind and a new attitude.

Your absolutely right, we have all seen this side of Yao, it seems when the big games are on " the money games" he plays with no heart or fire but after he either fouls out, or pulled by the coach, or game over he starts showing all of these emotions than when the game was actually played. I'm basically basing this on not just this game, but the end of the season last year and the playoff games.

I just don't understand the zombie like, nonchalant attitude when the game is going on and the raging inferno afterwards.

Bad conditioning will only get worst once the years start ticking away, I just don't see how he can reverse this natural process that all athletes go through. When he is 29 or 30 how fast and winded out will he show.

Makes me scared of the future for his game.

The guy Yao was complaining to was NOT a translator.

He is Mr. Li Yuanwei, the head of the Chinese Basketball Association. :D

Doesn't really matter who it was. Yao had no business yelling at anybody but the mirror.

I'm pretty much sure he's more frustrated with himself then just the team as a whole. The guy aint going to retire from playing for China, he got too much pride and competitiveness. Fatique totally wasn't the main factor. Pschologically it will if the whole team fall apart and that's exactly what happen. If you ask a sprinter that and they will tell you exactly that. Panic, short of breath, loss concentration and a loss of confidence.

    Yao
"If you do not break out of the silence, you will die in the silence."

It's about freaking time for Yao to tell it like it is. He's playing on a team full of scrubs.

How about saying that to himself? It is about freaking time he has a breakthrough on his game.

He's playing on a team full of scrubs so he should have more chance to shine. If he got 35pts and 14rebs, nobody can criticise him. No excuse for 12pts and 8rebs and dunked couple time by Paul b*tch Gasol. That was pathetic for a so-called franchise player in CNT.

Shameless team? What's your standard for a shameless team? Yao's upset, but I dont think the flag bearer of China's olympics delegation will shy away from the international play anytime soon. 2008 is supposed to be Yao's game.

I get it now. You are still bitter about SF being traded away. Maybe the entire league is just wrong.
