That's true. The civil rights movement did bring benefits to all minorities. However, I believe Asian Americans were already doing better (in terms of socio-economic achievements) than the African Americans before the Movement. This is not a knock on African Americans. In fact, all minority groups should be grateful for what the African Americans have done for civil rights.

It's just an observation that the "shut up and just do your work" mentality which is so prevalent in Asian (especially Chinese) culture might have helped more than the vocal political movement. This is in no way minimizing the historical impact of the Civil Rights Movement. What I am trying to say is that crying racism too easily might actually impede the progress of an ethnic group due to its psychological effect on the culture. This is the danger I see in the far left black activism.

    Rockets summary
    Kerr apologizes
TNT analyst Steve Kerr apologized Tuesday for using the term "Chinaman" in reference to Rockets center Yao Ming during the network's broadcast of the Rockets-Grizzlies game Monday.

Kerr, the longtime guard with the Bulls and Spurs who is in his first year as a broadcaster, said he was incorrect in his assumption that the phrase was an acceptable way to describe a Chinese man.

"I apologize for my ignorance," he said. "I was thinking of the term Frenchman and Dutchman, and I had no idea it was used as a demeaning term in any way.

"I feel terrible about it, and I apologize to anybody who was offended."

A Turner Sports spokesman added, "We apologize to any fans who were offended by the comment and appreciate Steve's sensitivity."

I think several people owe Dick Stockton an apology. It does help to have your facts straight before throwing around serious allegations. You would think that certain people here would be sensitive to that. I guess not. But that's okay. As long as *they* are the ones doing it...

You are really reaching here. Why do I owe him an apology. Did I offend him by talking badly about him on a message board?

Some people took it a step further than you by actually calling his employer to complain directly (about something he didn't even do), and one individual went to far as to contact his elected official.

if it's not for thoses ppl who "overracted" by calling tnt and some elected officials there would be more ppl making "ignorant" mistakes down the road. at least a lot more ppl have learnt through all of this that ch***man is an offensive term.

How dare YOU call for an apology from anyone. The next time you admit that you're wrong will be the first. When I called TNT my complaint was aimed at the network not at the broadcaster because I didn't know for sure who it was, the same was with Councilman Quan.

That is correct. I would like to add to that, "the next time I am wrong will be the first."

    GOOD DAY

Since when is it acceptable to refer to Native Americans as "redskins"
i.e. Washington Redskins, I am amazed at how the NFL still allows this offensive name for one of their teams.

Excuse me for my ignorance. Is "redskin" an offensive word for Native Americans? (A real question)

my understanding is that it's the comparable term to the "n" word for Native Americans. i'm surprised it is still the name of the Washington NFL franchise.
