Hope to watch a good game. Let it be close until the fourth where US pull away to win by big margin. Heres hopping that Wang Zhi Zhi gets real hot in the first few quarters, as well as Liu Wei.
So will anyone provide game links come game time? Hopefully this can be the game thread for the CHN vs USA match tomorrow.
Doesn't make any difference if we had Kobe or Jordan I am still a Rockets fan no matter what. Without the past we don't know who or where we are today and where to go in the furure. We definitely wouldn't be calling our Olympic basketball team the Redeem Team without remembering the past. Nothing wrong with making comparisons gosh, I didn't say I want Yao to be Olajuwon... Yao is going to be Yao and I like the way Yao physically plays on the court being 7'6 and this all started off with me saying I feel he is a better individual and all-around player than Dwight Howard.
I can't really believe some Americans want China to win because of Yao Ming...You'd show loyalty to a single person before your country. If Manu Ginobli played on the Rockets you would want Argentina to win...extremely fickle...I hope Yao Ming plays well and I hope he represents his country by playing with heart, but if at the end of the game Yao Ming has 8 points and got the ball slammed back at him by Dwight Howard 10 times and we win by 40, I for one will be happy.
Im also rooting for Yao and China because he's a Houston Rocket. Im a Houston fan before Im a USA fan. There are no Rockets players on the USA team..
I'll root for Team USA in every other sport besides basketball. With the NBA, everything is so scripted, drama filled and predictable. Seeing a bunch of that type of league's feature players coached by a guy I can't stand does absolutely nothing for me. If T-Mac, Battier or Ron Ron were on that team it would be a different story. At least then I could overlook the politics and BS. I'll be cheering for Yao to eat Dwight Howard for lunch tomorrow just like he always does.
The people I was referring to were Americans....thats probably why I said "I cant believe some Americans.." . I'm well aware that the internet, especially a site like this, is accessed by more that just Americans, I'm not that ignorant....really useful comment by the way
Probably because they're used to thinking of those players on the US team as jackasses from opponent NBA teams
Like you, generally speaking, I hope that the players I like the most perform well, and it ends there. But there's surely something to be said about the joys of rooting for the underdog. And for some of us it's just as silly to root for the home team without any other mitigating factors to consider. I'm as American as the next guy, but I've been cheering for Argentina ever since the 2002 World Championships began. I like their brand of basketball much better than the USA's. I confess to a bit of double anxiety when the US and Argentina play each other because my heart lies somewhere between the two. But if the criteria is based purely on basketball, my preference is Argentina.
They are saying that this game could be the most watched sports event in history. http://www.boston.com/sports/articles/2008/08/10/worlds_collide/ An EXCESS OF ONE BILLION EXPECTED TO WATCH. My goodness...
