If I'm not mistaken, Taiwan acts for the most part as an independent state but isn't considered officially independent by anyone. Officially it is a part of China but China doesnt actually control it. Though China hopes to bring it into the fold ...one day... The US cant treat it as officially independent because we'd piss off china. China can't take control because they'd piss us off... I think that's it in a nutshell....
Go back check what Powell said: He also said Iraq had WMDs, last I checked. Shall we move this to D&D before it gets locked?
The Treaty of San Francisco was signed by Japan and which allied countries? It was only signed by the US and Japan. China, whether CCP or KMT, was never present. So nice of them to decide Taiwan's fate without the country that actually owns the island being there isn't it? And which organization recognizes the San Francisco Treaty? Even the US and Japan don't. So it's actually funny that you ask what kind of history others have been taught.
Impressive.. next time use the line "go take a short walk off a long pier" or "make like a tree and beat it"
yeah dude calm ur self down.. its people like you who make all the Taiwanese resent China and its people so much.
Not exaxctly. You people need a long way to learn what is true democratic and what is people-first means.. Look at your A-Hitler-looks-like Minjindang president chen Shui Bian like-.. He is real threat to all Chinese and all Taiwaness, and all Americans in next 10 years. He is the trouble maker.
Leave those things to the politicians please, we're supposed to talk about Rockets basketball here...
Please stop arguing about Taiwan here. Most Taiwanese will say Taiwan is a Country while All Chinsese Mainland will say Taiwan is part of China. No body is right and nobody is wrong here. Not even the President of US can say who is right or slove the problem so please, leave those off this forum and get back to China Vs Taipei, the Asian game.
the funny thing is can anyone tell the difference between a Chinese and a Taiwanese? Can we just all get along???
Why do you think Communist China or the Nationalist KMT were not present at the signing of the treaty? Because they had no business being there. They did not own Taiwan. It's also funny that up until the 90's the ousted KMT still believed that they were the true government of China, so if that isn't delusional thinking I don't know what is. If you want to put it into perspective...what the KMT did to Taiwan was equivalent of what was done to China in Nanking by Japan. But in the end the recognition of Taiwan as a country comes down to economics and the benefits of keeping China happy is too valuable to other countries.
