Boycotting sporting events due to politics is one thing, but to not even try and compete with the world's best is an egrigous judgement on the part of those in charge. Although, I'm hearing the Philippines were afraid of being grouped with Team Vietnam. Their 5'11" center is an absolute beast on the boards.

I think its a case where an unqualified person got the job. It's not what you know, it's who you know. There are probably plenty of potentially great commentators out there, some very educated, others not so, who will never be given the opportunity to try.

Dude... check your info before trying to act as if you know everything from the Philippines. I live in the Philippines and it is not right to say that the PBA is the most corrupt league. In fact, they assembled a Philippine team and the professional teams actually allowed their players (most of them franchise players) to join the team. However, we werent able to join the FIBA tourney and the qualifiers this year because the Philippine Olympic Committee and BAP had a political conflict. and thus, the PBA- Philippine team were in quandary.

Yes, maybe BAP and POC sucks but i dont think its right to say that the PBA is corrupt..

and for your info, PBA has changed its format. they still have 3 conferences, one all-filipino, one with imports and another one all filipino but they invite foreign teams from everywhere.

and also there is no NBL here and MBA has folded years ago. okie?

be careful of your words mr. know-it-all.

just to add, FIBA banned the Philippine team because of the POC and BAP conflict

I'm not going to argue for the sake of arguing, i'm gonna take the high road on this one, i suppose you need a little bit more time here before you can talk $hit and it mean anything significant, and you need to keep watching the wrestling and stay away from the BBS.

actually - i am right - i just mixed up the order. I was referring to the BAP - notice I mentioned the public body - (the PBA is the private league - the philippines basketball association is the public association - and that's what i was referring to).

no nbl? you're right - it's the pbl. it's been at least 3 years since i've been in the middle of the philippines basketball scene - so i hadn't heard that the mba folded.

but my main point still stands: the public governing bodies of philippines basketball are absolutely corrupt and that is why the philippines isn't playing in the asian championships.

as for my credentials for commenting on the Philippines and basketball - let's just say that quinito henson calls me to ask questons about hoops.

WOW! How do you think the Philippine teams will fair against other top asian teams? Like Lebanon, Qatar or Korea? :)

oh okie. sorry if I reacted too harsh, i just wanted to back up the PBA especially the players, because i think its unfair to badmouth them when theyve busted their butts just to represent the Philippines. And its unfair that theyre not allowed to represent our country because of something theyre not responsible for. And i really believe in them and I honestly think that we can contend with anybody in Asia.

Anyway, in that case, i agree with you that POC and BAP sucks. they should have resolved their issues and so the FIBA ban would be lifted.

and as for my credentials, i am just a teenager and a die hard basketball and rockets fan . :)

anyway, so you personally know Quinito Henson? Well, its a very small world after all. He is actually a family friend of ours.

    Cool! =)

beat all of them... except for korea maybe... well, if i remember right, the philippines should've won that semi-final game against korea for this one tournament (not too long ago)... cant remember... either olympic qualifier, ABC... racela(pg) missed free throws that would've tied or won the game... south korea advanced and met china in the finals...

the philippines is one of the best teams in asia... although we (yes, i am a filipino...) have foriegn players, they are of filipino decent... not like qatar where they have americans...
