The Chinese team had one of the weakest group of guards among all the teams so it was'nt a surprise to me that Greece would exploit them so easily. Take Yao out of the equation and you could say almost the same about the front court as well. They would have gone 0-5 in group play without Yao.

I know the CBA teams don't want to lose their best players but unless they send them to play in Europe and the NBA then China won't do much better in the 2008 Olympics. Maybe the central government will step in if they are serious about making a run at a medal. Or maybe they will get a lot of home cooking with the officiating.

    Performance Under Pressure.

Once again the chinese players mental game melted down, except for Yao. He was frustrated but he dind't show it in his game, that's one big thing that makes him different from the rest of the team. And WangZZ, please grow up, you're a 7foot joke.

    V-Span is the man.

Sure he did, but that doesn't make him any less of a moron who writes about things he has no clue about. The problem I have with ingorant "journalists" is that people actually believe them.

First of all, I'm not playing so I can't show you anything. And second.. well there's really not much to say about what you wrote, because it really doesn't make much sense.

I didn't bother to read that article after I saw people saying he ranked Greece 8 and CNT 10, at least I didn't believe him on that rank, even though I root for CNT. Now after the Greece vs China game, the rank became a joke.

Sorry I confused you, but you can't blame a poor guy who couldn't even tell the difference between OPINION and OPIUM.

All I'm saying is that Greek team's goal is for this WC champion (they are already Europe champion), why care about what others think about them. They win, they are the best, no explanation/analysis/debate is required. I really hope that it would be USA and Greece in the final but unfortunately they have to meet earlier, but if they want to be the champion, they have to beat everyone else anyway. Now CNT is out I'll root for Greece because of V-Span, I'm more interested in the USA vs Greece game then others because that's Europe Champion vs "The Best of The World".

Pretty much how I thought this one would go. BLOW OUT. China didn't even have a chance in hell.

Bring on the REAL season. Go Rockets.

Me, too. China will not go any further with these guards, even with tons of luck, and what's the point of risking Yao's potential re-injury for nothing, especially he is really exhausted, and may be even a bit more injury-prone.

I'm not with those that say the Chinese team is bad.
All things considered, there are a few players in that team that might even become stars in the NBA some day. I like their tall point guard, as tall as Magic was, if they can train him to be 1/5 of Magic in quality they have a star, simply cause there aren't many PG that tall(this is why players like Bodiroga were succesfull-I never got why he didn't try NBA).

They're young too. I'm also told there is a player called something like Chen Ming Ming, that is 2,45 meters tall(that's roughly 8 inches taller than Yao if I'm not mistaken). They have a prospect there for a huge twin towers team.

The reason we didn't play well in the 1st quarter was because our players were afraid of Yao's height(like they were of Sabonis' when he'd play for Lithuania--once they saw we were allowed to make drives even close to him, Spanoulis leading the way, they improved). Imagine a team having two Yao's, and a super tall PG. They'd be formidable.

The others not withstanding, Whang Zizi(sp?) might play better if the teammates develop and they have this 7 footer SF Jinlian(sp). I'd imagine they could be an offensive rebounding nightmare for the opponents. Their young(17/19yo) guard seemed he could also develop to a good player. Kazlauskas is not a super coach, but probably better than some Chinese ones.
He could add Lithuanian styles to their game and that's a very succesful school of basketball.

Of course they need experience first. And hard work. But there are some 400 million people in china playing basKetball even in amateur level or for fun now. They'll prolly become a basKetball power soon.

Competition will rise in the coming years as I see that more and more teams have so much talent in their roster.

But the Greek team is better for now. The Greek defense is of the best in the tournament and it's the reason the Chinese looked that bad, when they're not. They're young and get frustrated easily, and prolly never before faced such a defense(with the exception of the USA ofcourse).

Basketball is for the cold in heart most of the time. That's the reason they were drowned. They got too emotional.
