not true. give me 3 practice games and i am 100% confident i can do a better job that the guy in this video. hopefully he's not a major play by play guy. "yao is just tall under the basket... being tall he's hard to defend..." and it sounds like the commentary is time delayed. but i guess it's hard trying to do both the pbp and the commentary. in any case, it was horrible. check that. give me just one practice game to learn the names and the correct terms in chinese and i can do better than that.
I think historically those people got their jobs not because they like sports, but it is a good job. You have to know the stuff by heart to do it. I think they got picked normally because they are eloquet and NOT dare to talk provocatively (critisize). The government always played a heavy hand on everything, especially sth like this -- public broadcasting. But it is getting better. There are a few guys who really got the job because they are not bad. But this particular guy was really bad. He knows shiit and can't talk either -- he often interrupted the guest commentator, a former world level female bball star.
