https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-n...val-non-war-military-use-raises-fears-taiwan/ Are we going to see mainland China attempt to conquer Taiwan this Summer? Anything we can do to brace the blow of this conflict?
My guess is they are learning a lot from Russia/Ukraine and my guess is if Xi is half smart he’ll opt for the information and cyber warfare route if they are really hellbent on controlling them long term. Putin has arguably controlled more of the USA from a disinformation and Manchurian Candidate investment perspective than he likely “controls” of Ukraine even if he does technically control a few square miles here or there in the East where they can plant a flag on rubble and dead bodies.
on the other end of the spectrum, Chinese media has been expressing this sentiment, when will the Taiwan province re-unite with motherland ?
Even the KMT in Taiwan has given up claims that they are the rightful government of all China. The PRC considers the Taiwan government illegitimate but the Taiwanese government is willing to recognize the CCP in mainland China as long as Taiwan can remain it's own.
Did China just take out Japan's former PM Shinzo Abe? In recent months he's advocated Japan aiding AUKUS, crticized China's agression towards Taiwan and in the region, China's part in the Ukraine invasion, allowing Japan host nukes for the US.
I doubt it. Taiwan is an island; fiercely defended and they run insurrection drills. Not to mention under both Biden/Trump naval exercises and passages through the straits by the US Navy have increased. China's best hope is more disinformation and pushing for peaceful reunification. Formosa has grography natural defensive advantage and years of drills/training of how to oppose an invasion. Look at Israel in the mixed areas of the West Bank for an example of how hard it is to forcibly take and incorporate a territory when a population doesnt want to. Hell look at Derry or Belfast. Insurgencies are brutal, ugly, exhausting and rarely won by the bigger power. That combined with the enormous economic backlash make it unlikwly theyll invade.
He was shot in the chest by a shotgun. He’s not declared dead yet but has no vital signs. Criticizing China is dangerous to your health and your career, just asked Darryl Morey.
They claim he "became ill" but he clearly doesn't want to go, and apparently reporters were allowed back into the room immediately prior. Very public metaphorical beheading of Xi's predacessor to send a message? [BBC]Hu Jintao: The mysterious exit of China's former leader from party congress
I just saw the video of it. Very odd. These things are are scripted so there should be no surprises. Suddenly physically taking out one of the former leaders sitting right next to Xi seems weird.
