Good or evil? Overreach or needed regulation? More significant than the regulation is the willingness to use it, vipshop just got hit with a $500k fine.

It's a hard balance - too much competition may result in no domestic winners/champions strong enough to expand overseas, too little and they get too fat/uncompetitive to expand overseas. There may be political/power motivations here too. Overall this seems like a good opportunity for the newer disruptors to get a bigger slice of the pie - kuaishou, pdd, api etc.

I'm sceptical, but maybe the esg movement will move the needle on this type of stuff. Talk is cheap but if capital is involved industry will respond.

The Chinese government is doing this to restrict the power of any corporations in China, as they do not want to have anyone question their authority.

Seriously "good or evil" is pretty simple when discussing that particular state actor.

I agree with the other posters. This all sounds good on paper but this is the CCP making sure tech companies don't get too powerful or popular that they could counter government restrictions.
