This is very true. Int'l rules allow a lot less physical play and you can look back and see why European teams can at times stay so close with the U.S. teams (exception: the first & only dream-team).

Yao Ming will have to go thru a major test in the physical part of the NBA game which I believe is the only area he'll have problems in. If you recall, Sabonis was having problems adjusting to the way NBA games are officiated in this area up to the last game he played. But then it's partly because he got here at an older age and already laden with injuries. That said, I'm a big time Sabonis fan and I can see Yao Ming, who admires Sabonis a lot, picked up part of his game (esp. passing). This also explains why I think Yao Ming will find the transition easier (but not easy) to handle.

In terms of skills, we all know how he measures up with all rookie centres.

This is a little out of the topic, but in case you haven't seen Sabonis in his prime, check these out, you'll enjoy them:

This is a international "A" level tournament. All the four teams are national team. The coach of Yugoslavia said he will add Divic (the guy in the Kings?) into the team at the end of July.

I have an observation. On that picture with Ming and a defender, the top of the defender's head is at the same height as Ming's chin. The length from my chin to the top of my head is 9 inches (i just measured). Im guessing Ming's head is about 3-4 inches taller than mine. Thus, the guy defending Ming is probably around 6'6". Right?

The guy is bent over to push Yao. He looks like he is taller than Yao's chin which would make him taller than 6'8". Rudy T who is at least 6'8" stands at Yao's chin.

    Nope, he's 7'1". Here's his NBA Profile.

In that picture Ming is standing upright while the other player is hunching over.

I don't think people realize how tall Yao is because they saw him against Christofferson at the workout who was described as a 7 footer and they assume CBA players are midgets. Chistofferson is actually 7'2" with no shoes on and has 9'11" inch reach flat footed.

Like I stated before, Ming will have no problems with his offense or blocks. The question is if he can stay in front of his man on defense and stay out of fall trouble.

So you put any other center in the league, except Shaq, on this Chinese national team, do you think they would come anywhere near 40/20? i know for sure Cato wouldn't.

LMAO, you are looking for every opportunity to cast doubt upon Ming. He is going to be an all-star, and you can't stop him!;)

the first team yugoslavia has zeljko rebraca, peja stojakovic, radmanovic, koprvica, divac, and sasha dordevic. none of those players are in this tournament.

this is not an important tournament to yugoslavia. the first team yugoslavia has alot more then two nba players. it is the second team yugoslavia...not a typo.

and i think ming did well.

Enjoying the discussion and especially the reports on these games.

One thing... I am sorta new here, but I get the impression Rezdawg doesn't like Yao...;)

Nah, I believe Rezdawg. that guy is 6'6". Look at that pic if you are not convinced. No way that guy can be taller than 6'6". I have even used my ruler to measure. I am convinced. Rezdawg rules.

    :D

I agree, he's probably less than a foot tall if he lie down on his back:D
