Console Yugoslavia? He would console them if China won. He wouldnt try to console them when Yugoslavia won by 14 points.

Ok, my bad. But, what I was referring to earlier was that the coach said that Italy played tough defense. He would not try to console Italy.

Damn, is it just me or has Ming dominating this tournament so far? He's scored 26 and 27 points in the last two games.

yes i agree. and scoring in a non american game is harder, because there is lesser time. they play 40 minutes, 26 and 27 are great scores.

Arno_ed, please help me. You said....

Are you saying it's gonna be easier for Ming to score in the NBA?
Have you watched much NBA action lately?

I know where you were going with this, but please, not to insult you, the competition is so much better in the NBA that if you divide those numbers by a factor of "2", you might come close to what he would have performed - with a similar effort - in an NBA game. I have watched a lot of international ball, and, face it, the top 12 teams in the NBA would thrash that Yugo team by big double figures.

Remember, Ming probably played all 40 minutes of the above-referenced game. With the Rockets, he'll be lucky to average 30 minutes per game.

With that said, 13 or 14 points/game for the Rockets will be incredible. That, plus a healthy MoT and Rice will put us in the playoffs this year.

    Go Ming Dynasty!!!

hardeji--I think he just meant with less time 26 points is more respectable than if he had 48 minutes. He wasn't saying the competition is less difficult. And yeah if Ming got 14ppg that would be excellent...

    Rezdawg,

It was posted in another that Ming went 10-12 from the field in the first game. So he didn't attempt that many shots. He is not fed the ball, the way they do here when someone is having a hot night.

Ming'll have a field day if our frontcourt decides to feed him the ball.

Question: Have you guys ever seen the Rockets run the P&R? I can't say that I have. If ya watch the Lakers run the Zen-daddy's hallowed "triangle offense", it's damn near like a P&R, where Shaq's fed the ball, looks for Kobe, et al, coming through the lane, and either passes or creates his own shot.

Please tell my why a simple P&R wouldn't work with a PG as good as Francis and a 7.5" guy hovering around the lane?

Can you imagine Ming in the feed-zone. He'd be a denier and dominator par excellence.

You guys are acting like China just beat the Lakers. They didn't even beat the best Yugo team. Shouldn't Yao have averaged 40/20 against a bunch of second teamers?

I think there are a couple of posters participating in this thread that have preconceived notions that Ming is not a good player.

27 points, against a zone, against a good Yugoslavia team, as the focal point of the offense, against double and triple teams, in more limited time compared to the NBA, with a wider paint area....

    IS FREAKING IMPRESSIVE!!!

I think Rockets fans should be very happy about this performance.

My point exactly. Ming played well. He did not dominate. Many people here are expressing such joy that he scored 26 points. Thats okay, but it definitely isnt something to be excited about. Its actually quite disappointing.

How can you say that Yugoslavia's second team is worth a lick? As if life in the NBA will be just as easy.

International competition is not a very good guage of how well he'll actually perform.

However, we'll see how good he is when he plays against the US in August.

I will say that when youre double teamed the whole game and you still score 27 points, that's impressive.

It's definitely not disappointing especially against 2 7 footers that made NBA squads. Scrubs or not, an NBA scrub is better than 99% of division 1 basketball players.

Actually that won't be a very good judge of how he'll perform in the NBA either. Remember International Rules are quite different from NBA rules. We won't really be able to see what Yao can do until he actually plays a game in the NBA.

Im excited that Ming is on our team. I also think he has the potential to take us to the next level. But, I dont think 27 points against yugoslavia 2nd team is special. Its just an opinion. Some posters here are changing their pants after that kind of a performance. I will need to change my pants when Ming scores 40, gets 20 boards, and blocks 8 shots against the competition he is facing right now.

I am pretty sure the "second team" part is a translation error. Do you really think that two players who have made it to the NBA would be on the second team? Perhaps it just meant the second team China had played? They learned their lesson the first game, so that they won the second...
