they're not saying he was convicted of rape

    they're saying he committed rape.

you realize the difference between illegal and immoral right? like something could be immoral like abortion but perfectly legal. and something could be illegal like underaged drinking but not necessarily immoral. the way our legal system works is with the assumption that some guilty ppl will get off since the burden of proof on the prosecution is so stringent. in other words if you believe in the American judicial system you must assume that there are some guilty ppl walking around on the street... because we believe that's more palatable than the alternative

I'm surprised that some people are so convinced that Kobe's guilty. They generally seem far more adamant than those who believe he's innocent (outside of Laker fans, obviously).

To my knowledge, the evidence (available to the public, anyway) doesn't really seem to strongly support the claims of him being guilty or innocent. I doubt I'm going out on a limb by suggesting that most people let their personal opinions of Kobe determine their belief in his guilt, just as Laker fans steadfastly claim that he's innocent.

Incredible spin job by his PR people. That mob was actually an angry mob there to kill him.

I perfectly understand the difference. My point was more -- there was no proof. He's Kobe Bryant -- he doesn't have to rape anyone to have sex. If you were raped by someone, you would be traumatized, not bragging about having sex with the person at a party a few days later. The case never even made it to trial.

So back to my original point -- I must have missed the part where Kobe "raped" a girl. There's a difference between accused and actually committing the crime.

People should dislike Kobe for the right reason then. He's an arrogant prick.

My 17 years old nephew in Beijing is one of diehard Kobe's fans. No much room in China Market for LeBoy James yet.
I can tell you, behind Yao, Kobe is the most loved NBA player in China, guess
who was the third 2 years back? AI.
I sense that the fans in China respect Championship more, respect the fighting- spirit more.
Off the topic, did you see the Nike's commercial last season? Kobe was to be replaced in the commercial, LB was everywhere in regular season. Things changed quickly after first round, it became Kobe's solo. I don't like that these
famous brands switch their tones and slogans easily based on the output of the game.

Honestly, that's not considered a big crowd in China.

I think you guys are vastly underrating the power of fame and fortune.

Kobe doesn't need to rape girls. They come to him.

    WOOOOO!!!
