When Yi averages 25/10 in NBA, appears in china's high scool textbook for Chinese, and mentioned in the Chinese SAT test, he will speak up. All of such have happened with Yao.

WTF, we talking about a guy who delay surgeries so he can be with the national team, a guy after 82 nba games go straight back to the national team each and every years he's been in NBA, a guy who gave everything in every game he's played.

Does anyone else even come close to him? **** when that report can say he is as patriotic as yao then speak, for the time been please shut up.

If Yao get hurt before Olympic, the National team is gone, can they beat anyone decent without yao?

We should start an international "Save the Yao" foundation. Honestly though, the rockets really dont need Yao until the all-star break (which he'll still start in without having played a single game). If I was rockets management and seriously concerned about his longevity and shoulder, I'd give him some rest there.

    (situation exaggerated)

Actually, Chinese national basketball team's best results historically in both FIBA World Championships and Olympics have been the same with or without Yao. The CNT of the mid-'90s were able to reach the final eight in these two highest level tournaments. Yao's CNT thus far has done no better despite Yao's tremendous improvement individually. From CNT's angle, it makes sense that Yao trains and plays with his national teammates as much as possible in both practices and tournaments during NBA off seasons. Yao understands perfectly his CNT's failure to climb up higher world ranking would leave a huge black mark in his legacy even if he and his NBA team manage to do exceptionally well in America.

Yao said to some Chinese media that for the CNT's Olympic game next year, he has postponed his operation on the shoulder even if it will increase the risk of injury and his pain in game.
SUCKS the Chinese sports association, what more do they want?!

Well his shoulder injury is not going to render him unserviceable immediately.....but it is causing him pain when he tried to do bigger swing of his arm as vividly disclosed by his close friend Andy Yao Anhong on this forum.

According to what was reported earlier in the Chinese websites, he was diagnosed to be suffering from some torn/detached labrum/articular cartilage on his shoulder due to the worn and torn bought by playing down the low post for so many years.

Doctors' advices were that he needs to take surgery to fix it once and for all. But as such surgery will take minimum of 6 months to recover, and a longer time to rehabilitate to be back into his competitive shape and form, due to the 2008 Olympic consideration, he opted for a conservative approach of doing physical therapy and physical strength exercise hoping he can grow the muscle there at the shoulder to better protect himself from further injury.

But he said it yesterday in Beijing that this will be a surgery that could not be prevented, which he currently schedules it well beyond the summer of 2008, i.e. at least after the 2008 Olympics in August 2008.

Wow. I'm sure that, if China was Catholic, they'd have beatified Yao by now.
