i am also dissapointed, but comparing a bball team with a country? you know which carries more weight ...
God I hope Yao knows what he is doing, or his NBA story may become "he'll be better next year, if he rests over the summer"

exactly, yao's stamina will always be a problem if he doesn't work on it the whole offseason.

i know the chinese national team is important, but it's not like he needs to train w/ them or anything. the team sucks anyway and they run everything through him. i know the country's pressure on him so i understand.

but i also understand if he keeps playing for china, he'll never reach his full potential.

I really really really really really really really wish he didn't have to play for the National Team.

He didn't play last year because of his foot injury. It's his duty to go play for his Country. American's just don't understand that. It's not a celebration if the USA team wins, it's a failure if they lose. People look at the national teams like obligations and players know that they have more to lose by playing. If team USA wins the Gold, fans will just think that they did what they were suppose to do. That's not a fun mentality. It's not inspiring.

Yao makes millions of dollars in the NBA and the Chinese Basketball Association doesn't have its biggest Star. China needs to practice. They are hosting the games next year and want to make a big impact on the visiting world. They are using the games as an exhibit to how far the country has advanced both economically and technologically. It would help the campaign if their national team upset the big dogs in big tournament.

Maybe I side with you guys on any other year but not the summer before China hosts the biggest international sporting event.

I don't doubt its importance, but at the same token, you are exactly right, he is getting paid in Houston to play bball. In China, he receives nothing, it is his honor to play. Here in Houston, we pay him to play. When other activities interfere with your job, there's something that needs to be fixed. Looking into it now, I think he would be a lot better if he stayed here in the summer. Why is it, that he is the only international player who takes international play so seriously? Dirk doesn't get this worked up, Ginobli doesn't, Nash doesn't. I don't know, maybe I am slowly becoming one of those people who want to trade Yao. Maybe I'm just pissed cause we left the playoffs so early.

Or you're just not being very calm about this

The guys you listed all played for their countries. You just don't feel it as important because they don't play for Houston when the season starts

The Chinese National team sucks I agree, but there won't be any improvements if that's the attitude everybody has. For many people, it is a great honor and a privilege to represent their countries in international events, I'm not sure if some people here can get it through their heads. Especially people who are constantly being exposed to media that trashes the U.S government and the way many Americans live daily.

Regardless of the ideal differences or whatever. Yao resting or training would obviously improve his physical conditions. However, I think that if the Chinese National Team does well, it will also help him greatly mentally. That's just as important if not more as getting pointers from guys who don't play in the league anymore.

    No, I do not agree.

Dream needs to take Yao to a remote island or isolated mountain village where can truly mold and shape him. In addition to rigorous footwork and mental exercises, Hakeem will need to use cruelty as a tool for discipline for obedience. This will be necessary to truly transform Yao into the dominating MVP candidate that he will be become.

The training will be extremely rigorous, and Yao will endure many hardships, but in the end he will become a formidable warrior under Hakeem's tutelage.

    There is no other option.

Any chance Yao will learn the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique at the mountain village?

It's an honor (and maybe an obligation) for Yao to play for the national team. It was one of the questions mark when he was drafted. The Rox knew the risks. It's Yao's life, and he can do what he wants. It's a strike against him, but admittly not a big one.

You have to look at it like a fan from other teams that have to deal with a player's potential off the court issues (Artest, Stephen Jackson, and etc.) and weigh how much that would affect a player on the (NBA) court. I still believe even with his CNT obligations, it will not outweigh the positives he can bring him to the Rockets. While he might not reach his maxium potential, or increase the risk of him not being to stay in the league or play in the league in a top form, I would rather have Yao with these "faults" than not have Yao at all.

Yes, but he has to be careful when using it so as to not pick up a tech.

Sometimes when players become injury-prone it's their bodies telling them they need a rest.

Anyway what some other players are doing:

I agree with Mr. Clutch. 2-3 days at the most? C'mon.. The Dream would have a video out by now if his skills could be learned in that short amount of time... ;)

The CNT is a bunch of idiots if they do not realize the importance of Yao learning from one of the top Centers of all time.
This not only helps the Rockets but also the CNT more so than anything else he could be doing with him.

What happened to the Honor, Loyalty, and Humbleness that I saw in all those Kung Fu flicks growing up where the main character would travel far and wide and do practically anything just for the chance that the great master would teach them the arts?

Eh, the underlying concept in a lot of Kungfu flicks are also loyalty to your country and placing the welfare of your country higher than your own.
