You made a good argument and presented solid supporting evidence. Understood its not your map but giving you credit for posting your evidence. That said though there still is a question of what rights there are in EEZ. The link I posted earlier from the UN shows that EEZ isn't territorial water. The country that controls the EEZ has certain rights but so does everyone else. The EEZ is more International waters with preference to the country closest than it is territorial water. In regard to the central topic of this thread even accepting that the incident was in PRC EEZ I don't think that makes the PRC anymore right.
Reminds me of a few fine upstanding gents in my old high school who used to love to urinate on each other and for some reason found it hysterically funny.
Official: US ship in scrape now has armed escort By ANNE GEARAN – 6 hours ago WASHINGTON (AP) — The Navy has assigned a heavily armed destroyer to escort the U.S. surveillance ship that got into a high-seas confrontation with Chinese ships last weekend. A defense official says the Hawaii-based destroyer "Chung-Hoon" is keeping a close eye on the unarmed sub-hunting ship "Impeccable" as it continues operations in the South China Sea. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to describe sensitive ship movements. The official says the escort ship joined the Impeccable on Wednesday. China has demanded that the United States quit surveillance work in a disputed area far off the Chinese coastline. U.S. officials say they won't back off. The Chung-Hoon is among the Navy's newest and most sophisticated warships. It joined the fleet in 2004. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hvgVIowouHSCJnjUHVpAxuuJ0D5wD96SIIT00
Can't say I'm surprised. You don't need a bridge. The Boliver Ferry needs the business. My post from the other thread points out the possibility! (in response to a brilliant post by Sam the Fisher King) It all makes sense if you think about it.
Let me guess, the Chinese hacking the US government's computer networks doesn't infringe on the national security interests of the US and can't be considered a use of force or threat? It's just so convenient like that.
I have no idea what your trying to imply, but the USS Chung-Hoon was named after Rear Admiral Gordon Pai'ea Chung-Hoon.
I think this is a terrible move. While I don't think either side is right in this incident at the sametime does it make sense to do more sabre rattling. The US has a surveillance ship near the PRC. The PRC sends some ships to shadow and intimidate the surveillance ship while doing some sophmoric pranks. The US sends a heavily armed warship. This is not a good pattern for two countries that at the moment need each other more than ever.
