Biden gets criticized for saying the US will defend Taiwan. Biden Gets criticized for trying to calm things with Xi Jinping. So it’s just criticize Biden no matter what he does. Having a meeting with Xi to try to calm Things with the PRC is the right thing but as noted Biden has already taken several strong measures against them. I don’t expect him to make many or concessions to the PRC. This is probably more a statement of positions by both sides to prevent misunderstandings.
Yes. The PRC is beset by many problems right now. A conflict with the US isn’t in their interests either.
Biden could give everyone a million dollars and the gop would complain they have to pay taxes on it..............its a no win for the guy. Everything he does is wrong and bad, I get it, typical politics taken to the extreme these days. On a side note, I was watching some college kids get interviewed and they were saying biden needs to keep his promise on forgiving student loans or 2024 could be a problem for him..............ok, he tried and got some through but was blocked and still took it to the SCOTUS, so there willing to vote for trump if they dont get there way?? Stupidity......anyone who votes for trump better understand that democracy could change forever if they elect him
The vow to use the US military to defend Taiwan in the case of a Chinese invasion. The 345 Million dollar aid package Strengthening alliances and working with the Philippines, Australia, and Japan to enact international forces to help protect the Taiwan Straight.
force deployments? shipping requirements? if China invaded tomorrow (unlikely, but not implausible), how would we get forces in place to prevent them occupying Taiwan? or is the plan to let them take it, and then try and displace them after they've wrecked the country?
Trump is the frontrunner to next year's elections. It's totally fair game to compare how both would handle growing escalation across the world because every candidate will be asked how they would respond. If inviting and meeting Xi for talks "is not the issue" as you say, then what is?
That's why he worked with forces in the area as I mentioned - Japan, Australia, Philippines. It looks like the ONLY way you will accept that there was a strengthening of relations and reenforcing Taiwan is with Troop and force deployment. Fortunately, there are wiser decision makers in DC who have used different methods to strengthen the alliance.
Our subs could sink their entire navy ... which might make an amphibious landing rather difficult seeing how swimming with 50 lb backpack over 100 miles is tough sledding The US also has four carrier group in the western Pacific. Western Pacific US Air Force The command has approximately 45,000 military and civilian personnel serving in nine strategic locations and numerous smaller facilities, primarily in Hawaii, Alaska, Japan, Guam and the Republic of Korea. Approximately 340 fighter and attack aircraft are assigned to the command with approximately 100 additional deployed aircraft rotating on Guam. PACAF will be home to three of the seven F-22 fighter squadrons currently programmed, and is already home to the only two C-17 units based outside the continental United States. Is this news to you @basso ?
question for you: if China launched an attack on Taiwan today, would they succeed in occupying the island? if not, why not?
He's not playing dumb that's for sure...guy asks a ton of questions that no one should bother with but then refuses to answer any you ask him. Might be a Trump associate in incognito here...
What do you consider successful? Define what you feel successful Chinese occupation of Taiwan would look like.
