I went to the same high school as Muoneke. His name is all over the locker rooms since he holds the majority of our school's records. ****ing sad to see him on ESPN for stuff like this lol
Give me a break! The guy was crying telling people he was beaten up. Team Shanghai kicks some serious asses!!
Hey, that's what Yao Ming said. Don't argue with me over what Yao said. Take it up to him. And secondly, whatever tensions exist between country and city people have nothing to do with RACISM. Do you understand what racism is, son?
This story sounds like complete BS. How is Mouneke's wife joining the argument the 'Key' So the two teams share the same locker room? Where did he supposedly make these racist comments?
Yao said bird.... I assume it's meant to be as much prejustice as racism. Since when did bird = racism? To followup, based one what I've observed, human beings find ways to exclude others and include themself in the majority or empowered group (it's usually both). It's almost within our nature to find tension and divide. On the other hand, I think the fact that the U.S., with as diverse nation as it is, able to remain fairly stable and to have things like the civil rights movement to be more of the past then the future, is down right amazing and commendable.
From what I know of Chinese (since I am one of them), they are pretty racists themselves. In the Cantonese language they refer to black and and whites as "black ghost/devil" and "white ghost/devil." That is NORMAL in their conversation. Granted it might not be as bad as called them "n*****s" and "cracker" but, comon now. So lets not say that Chinese people don't know what racism is or are not racist themselves. I think there is just something in every nation/race/culture that tends to believe they are better than others. Some countries just had the ability to act it out (USA, Germany, Japan) while some didn't have that power. I think some people on this board are giving the Sharks players a little too much credit. I am sure Gabe did something to piss off Liu. Making a racist comment? I personally wouldn't think so. That just wouldn't be smart on his part. His teammates are Chinese... That just wouldn't make sense to me. If we want to talk about being logical. Trash talk? I will agree with that. Probably said something personal to piss him off? Sure. Or maybe it was just something said in the heat of the moment that probably wasn't nice, Liu goes back to his teammates, makes it seem bigger than it really was, gets them excited and then they decide to attack Gabe in front of his family. Is that out of the question? Probably not.
Good read. Gabe is a comedian! I LOL'd when he was calling them Disney characters. Seriously though, must be very tough to be a American basketball player in a foreign country, mainly China. One of the posters here keep mentioning how racist Americia is but what about the racism that Gabe has to go through in China? He makes a great point about if he actually defended himself, he'd probably be the bad guy in this situation. But Gabe did the ring thing. Took the "deep tissue massage" and just laughed at them. I bet that really pissed off those bullies. Nice to see you taking to sides of racist cowards. Shows the type of character you are.
It doesn't look like the dude was having his tough-guy-vs-Disney-cartoons moment when he was weeping like a little girl in front of the local media. His wife on the other hand appeared more bemused in the picture.
I don't really know what happened, but for some one that ended up crying after the instance he is sure taking a condescending attitude now. I understanding he can try and be funny about a blog, but in one his earliest responses to public he basically decided to poke fun at China and Chinese basketball. Thought I wont consider it racist, that's just not something you should do and is completely devoid of class. Still not saying he should've gotten hit in front of his wife and kids, nor am I saying he wasn't facing adversity during and after the instance, but rather I expected a more humble response.
^I think it's quite possible there are no good guys in this whole incident. But with China still being China you can expect it to hand down punishment to its own people for the sake of harmoniousness.
Actually with China being China, I'd expect biasness in judgment against Gabe if they feel they can get away with it without to much of an incidence. Otherwise, they'll take the public high road and to show how unbiased and progressive they are. But I agree, there are no good guys in this incidence. Jocks everywhere suck

You tell me who's the bad guy for punching players on court for no reason. Even it wasn't so cool for Team Shanghai to revenge later, I still believe Gabe deserved it. And crying in front of the local media, god I'm speechless...He IS a comedian. If he doesn't show Chinese players any respect, maybe he should go back and play in US or Nigeria whatever his hometown is.
gee. this guy is REALLY SMART!! What a NICE SMART guy!! bite the hand that feeds you. twice. at first i was more on his side than the Chinese players but now he's just starting to sound like another classless jock punk.
He did come off sounding like a smartass, a bad PR move. If I'm getting beat on in front of wife and kids though, being humble is the last thing I'm thinking. If I know I have no chance in hell of retaliating, I'm heaping some verbal abuse. “Well, were you in a ready to fight stance?” What kind of question is this. LMAO
Because when men are argueing you dont join the conflict and make the thing worse. You try to calm them down instead of acting like a badass. anyway, I rang my friend just now for your question, this is what I got :" He yelled at Cai Liang right after the final whistle and was walking towards him." Again, look at the video the other guy posted.
