So in other words, you think their defense of giving air and naval superiority in their own air and naval space is "perfect defense?" And where is this "planned" Chinese carrier? It's been talked about at least since the early 90's. Hasn't happened yet. So that's certainly a ego boost on the part of the Chinese.
China was the largest customer of the Soviet Union. To argue that China ended the Soviets is laughably silly. And I went and looked up the Japanese army groups and divisions in China. Japan had a net positive from the invasion of China with the extraction of goods and materials from Manchukuo and the IJA never suffered from manpower shortages against the USA that weren't systemic to Japanese stupidity. The Chinese could have rolled over and USA could have ignored China and the results would have been the same. By the time the USA got involved there weren't even any frontline combat troops in China, just garrison divisions and second line units. If China had never been on the table at all, it would have been better for the USA. KMT and the Chairman were more concerned with fighting each other. Your statements are false.
customers of what? as far as i can tell, the older generation all hates USSR and friendly towards USA at the time. and it doesn't really matter if japan won the war or not, they would been drive out by now if no one helped china.
You are mostly correct. With few exceptions, both the KMT and the communists were interested in fighting each other, so they kept their troops from engaging the Japanese fully for most the eight years. Both sides claim they fought the Japanese as hard as they can, but that would be untrue.
Your statements are just funny. China was the largest customer of the Soviet Union, US, UK and Germany at one point or another. By the time the war started in Europe, aid from the US and UK far exceeded that from the Soviets, who were in a lot of hot water on their own. No front line troops in China? That's even funnier. That would have been far more the case in late 1944/45 instead of 41 to 44. By the time 1943 came around, China had effectively grinded down large portions of the IJA that they were having problems maintaining the number of elite troops in both theatres. Your "elite troops" weren't pulled from China. They were stripped from the Kwangtung Army, half of which was sent to the Pacific, the other half into the rest of China. The only difference is, the IJA started stripping the Kwangtung Army to send to China in around 1938, while it only started doing the same to the Pacific in 43. Japan would have been able to focus its entire strength (economic or otherwise) on one front instead of two. Actually, had China rolled over like it was supposed to in 1937, Japan would be making its way up the Trans-Siberian Rail instead of somewhere around Beijing. Numbers weren't an issue in the Pacific? Why do you conveniently leave out the fact that the Japanese were outnumbered basically in every battle while island hopping? Transport capacity was an issue, but not the only one. My statements aren't false, your "knowledge" is.
I never understand this media-phobia of China. There will be some protests from Falungong, Tibetan, Taiwanese,...... so what? The audience and the sponsors of their pathetic show are always westerns. I say let them dance and spin. Their anti-communism addiction will only make China stronger. Every real Chinese will stand against them firmly once western media step in for them. The one in 1989 was a huge example. VOA and BBC helped China as effectively as PLA. China need its own CNN and BBC or use enemy's CNN and BBC. Either way, you let media in and play.
China has oil, obviously not as much as the Middle East but it has much more oil than the home islands of Japan. China also has vast coal reserves, iron, natural gas, copper and other minerals. The Japanes primarily wanted to conquer China for historical reasons but they also wanted natural resources. While China wasn't in enough shape to defeat Japan consider that in 1937 the Japanese believed they would conquer China in 3 months. It took them 3 months to conquer Shanghai alone and the Chinese continued to fight them for almost 4 years with almost no American help. If the Chinese had surrendered in 1937 and allowed the Japanese to help themselves to China's natural resources while also deploying many more troops to elsewhere in Asia the island hopping strategy might not have worked. Island hopping worked because while numerous the Japanese were over extended.
While this is an issue of cultural pride I would say this is also an issue of being true to history. Yes it true that the Chinese or any of the other Asian countries could've defeated Japan but I don't believe its being true to history to argue that the Chinese front, or the Malay or Burmese front, was inconsequential to the war. As has been pointed out the Japanese home islands are resource poor and to sustain their war machine the Japanese desperately needed natural resources. Island hopping was a brilliant strategy but one dependent on the Japanese being unable to mount an even defense. If the Japanese had conquered China in 3 months as they thought they would in 1937 who knows how the war might turn out given that instead of consolidating their gains they had to keep on fighting. Also consider that the Japanese conscripted other Asians into their forces so many of their troops were Korean, Taiwanese and other Asians. Consider if China had surrendered and a Chinese puppet state added its millions into the Japanese military or for that matter Japan locating industrial sites deep in China far from the reach of Allied airpower how well the war might've gone for the US then.
How early? The first successful test went in July 1945, and US dropped the bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August, 3 weeks later. Never let little things like facts stay in your way in D & D.
Well you can kiss your cultural pride goodbye, your warts are going to be exposed like like a fat girl's ass in a hospital gown once you take the center stage in the world press. Sudan, Tibet, suppression of free speech, human rights, autocracy, religious suppression, exploitation of workers, pollution, Taiwan, The Spratleys, the abortion of female fetuses, blood doping, genetic questions, amature soldier athletes; it's all going be front page news for the entire games. That's just the way we rock out in the free world. It's a b**** ain't it? And frankly I'll be glad the heat is off the US for a couple of weeks. How about you guys hosting the next G7 meetings too?
Yeah, try to invade them sometime and you will find out how perfect it is. It will be an ego boost when they build it.
"Terrorist are taking back their country"--video 2. funny, how it seems most of the terrorist aren't even from Iraq, so what is it that they are taking back?
How is this possible? Are they going to censor every picture broadcasted by every TV station? I doubt the realibilty of this article.
Ok, before you freedom fighters and commie defenders pick up the fight, reread the article. It all stems from one broadcasting company cancel live shots at Tianmen square. That is different from China banning NBC, BBC or whatever from sending live Tianmen shots. I believe I have seen live NBC live shots of Tianmen many times after 89. At this point I call this article pulling something out of nothing.
Sishir, I certainly stand by my post. China didn't have a significant effect on the war being won in the end. The end of the war with Japan. You could have parked thousands of more Imperial Japanese Army troops on those tiny Pacific islands (assuming Japan could supply them given US naval and air superiority) and those most heavily fortified would have simply been bypassed and starved out (I love repeating myself! ). Japan didn't lose because it had hundreds of thousands of troops, it's navy, and it's air force in China (Japan's navy and air power were largely committed in the Pacific theatre, where the US Navy defeated them in detail), but because it lost it's carriers and pilots in combat against, primarily, the United States, allowing US air power to attack the Japanese home islands and eventually drop the atomic weapons. More Japanese civilians were killed and wounded in conventional US bombing of Japan than were lost at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I went to some pains not to belittle China's contribution to the war effort and her suffering at the hands of Imperial Japan. The truth, however, is that the war was ultimately won by defeating the Japanese naval and naval air power in the Pacific and on Japan's home islands. If someone cares to interpret that as belittling China's effort in WWII, they are welcome to do so. It won't be the truth, but what the hell? Go for it. Impeach Bush and Send Him to Japan.
