I'll stand with you in this lonely corner... I taped the Dixie Chicks Storytellers because there are 2 songs on there that I can just listen to over and over - the last 2 songs - don't ask me the names but one is about Alzheimer’s and the other is about the grief they caused from the Bush comment. I'm a rocker and my wife is more R&B and country and she can not see why I like those. I think she thinks I have a crush on one of them. But regardless of whether or not you like them - you have to admit they are very talented musicians and songwriters. I'd give my other votes for Fleetwood Mac, Heart and Janis.
L7 was great. I have a promo CD they released to radio stations around 92 that has a short live show in London on it. Best version of "Pretend we're Dead" I've ever heard.
Um ... guys? Can someone tell an old man how to post a You tube movie. I keep trying different ways, but no dice. Hence my image-heavy contributions.
Kim Shattuck is awesome! I met her at Rajis in Hollywood just as the Muffs were geting started. Carla Bozulich from that same period. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ibJZUXuD16s&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ibJZUXuD16s&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
does anybody else think the drummer for Sleater-Kinney looks like the mom from home improvement? I've always thought that. Anyway, Sleater-Kinney was awesome. As soon as I saw this thread title, they're the first band that came to mind. Carrie is doing some sort of sketch-comedy thing now. Followed by Pretty Girls Make Graves, which I don't think anybody has mentioned yet. That band was great. Also Cat Power is pretty awesome. Her voice is amazing. Tegan and Sara Bjork PJ Harvey The Breeders (and some Pixies songs) Liz Phair (but only the older stuff) Sonic Youth (some of it, although the songs Kim sings in general aren't my favorites) The Innocence Mission (Lakes of Canada is a great song, and they did a nice cover of Wild Horses) Portishead Golden Palominos Papas Fritas
My daughter claims Amy Lee is the best from some group called Evanescence Anybody heard of her or the group?
Thanks I've seen the movie but don't remember the songs, is she good and are they a rock band? I need to go google, duh!
"Going Under" I think is the one that plays quite a bit, but also maybe "My Immortal" might be in the movie, as well. They're not bad and she does have a good voice. EDIT - actually it was "Bring Me to Life" and not "Going Under" that is in the movie, but both songs are on their debut album.
Ya know...the more I listen to X, the more I REALLY like them. I was always a fan of Tanya Donnelly & Belly. and Garbage as well.
I almost forgot about this one - Veruca Salt. Some might say they were a bit derivative, but I thought their first album was pretty solid. Plenty of good songs on there. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8AI95BVkiW0&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8AI95BVkiW0&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> I thought Nina Gordon was pretty cute too. I think they broke up because the other lead, Louise Post, stole her boyfriend.
On the right hand side is a box 'embed': If you click on the space under embed, you should end up with white text on a blue background: Once this is done, click 'Control-C', which will add this text to the clipboard. Then return to the BBS. In the reply pane, click on where you would like the embeded object to be and click 'Control-V'. You should end up with something like the following: If you then click on 'preview post' your embeded video should appear. Otherwise, repeat the process, as you have made a mistake.
I have actually, good call. I'm convinced Morisette got her idea to cover that Fergie song (I think?) from this.
I totally forgot about Hole. I really loved this album. I don't care what anyone says about her being crazy, she is really talented. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mfT3n_vSnso&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mfT3n_vSnso&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
