Couldn't they just amnesty Boozer if they want to shed salary?

Deng is an overrated player that can help a contender type of team, not a team like the Rockets.

That would make the most sense, if they are looking for cap space. On the contrary, if the team does not want to pay a remainder of Boozer's salary, once he's signed by another team, then they may cause some reluctance for the Bulls.

Though, I believe the Bulls want to stay competitive at this point. Also, Chicago sheds nearly $75 million over the next three seasons. Letting Boozer and Deng go could be great long term and even semi-short term. For a SF, the Bulls could make a run at Nicolas Batum or fall back on short term options, like Grant Hill or Gerald Wallace. Maybe, temporarily go with Korver as a starter.

Noah and Gibson is a decent pair.

As they are now, Chicago cannot win the East, even with healthy Rose.

Trading a high draft pick for Deng would be like the Rockets trading #14 for Mikael Pietrus or #8 for Battier. Solid role players but you pass up some very interesting prospects.

But if anything, the Bulls need to tank next year and trading Deng for a #14 would seem more realistic.

FWIW: The Bulls want to give Omer Asik and Taj Gibson new deals, so they’re exploring ways to trade Luol Deng and/or Joakim Noah to teams that can send them a trade exception and a No. 1 pick.
