We don't need an elite offensive player like Kevin Love. We have enough shot creators, and Dwight (+maybe Jones) makes our rebounding elite. Our offense is already ridiculously good. What we need is DEFENSE. In particular, we need a perimeter stopper who also does not harm our perimeter spacing. So basically... we need Luol Deng. Or somebody with his kind of game. He has the right kind of body type to withstand that. Wiry strong. He's only 28, dude. He's good to go for at least the next few years. Fair point I guess, but not one that worries me too much. Do you REALLY think he would leave? I know there is a chance but it seems extremely unlikely. We already talked Dwight effing Howard into leaving money on the table in order to sign here, and obviously his presence has improved our team since that time. It's possible Deng could even be convinced to sign a 3 year max extension at the time of the trade. I doubt it, but you never know.
There has been a lot of talk among Bulls fans that Deng has a ton of wear and tear on his body. And his offense has declined for a couple of years now. Deng may be a very scary proposition in FA. Someone who could drop off at any time and you may have to pay a lot for. Also, Deng makes $14.3mil. Salary matching may become an issue here.
No way Chicago accept that. Besides, Butler likely leaves with Noah in any trade scenario there. I would take that swap straight up. I wouldn't have done that last year, but adding Dwight changes things.
I think I got a good one. 3 team trade Chicago gets Asik and Evan Turner and Brewer (in December) Philly get Luol Deng and D-Mo and Brooks and Greg Smith and Charlotte pick We get Boozer and Snell and Nazr
I guess stranger things have happened. But this would be up there in "makes no sense" category of trades.
Asik PLUS DMo? I'm not wildly optimistic about DMo's potential, but even then I think is way too much unless Deng is fully cleared by our doctors and willing to extend at a much smaller salary.
We could always get them to send back a pick or something. I think you're underrating Deng a bit though. He's been a huge part of the Bulls' winning these recent years, and they won't part with him easily even though they know he's probably leaving in the offseason.
But Houston is not necessarily looking to win the championship this year though. We would probably need at least one year for the team to gel. I'm not so sure we would get this opportunity if we acquire Deng, and if he leaves during the off-season we end up losing our most valuable trade piece for practically nothing. Of course, if Deng is willing to resign at a reasonable price, that's a completely different story. Deng is a nice player to have on your team.
Mirotic can hit the Euro 3 pointer and clutch ones at that. He has looked pretty good on D at least on ACB level but maybe it'll be just OK in the NBA. If they can bring over Llull at the same time that's a ready made combo, chemistry.
The Bulls would not be giving up Mirotic for an Asik-centered deal. Anybody who thinks that is a real homer! The Bulls will not re-sign Luol Deng this summer, so they'd like to get something for him. The Bulls are also in luxury tax territory, and replacing Deng's 2013-14 salary with Omer Asik's cap hit saves Chicago a TON of money. Rockets fans who think Asik + D. Motiejunas for Deng is too much are being homers and are undervaluing Deng. I do think Deng re-signs with Houston at a reasonable price (three years, $27-$30 mil?). Note that Deng allows Houston to field offers for Chandler Parsons after the season, maybe on draft day (maybe Parsons for a late 2014 lottery pick?). Chicago would likely want to flip Motiejunas for "draft considerations to a team thst can absorb his salary, for further tax relief. Note that this deal can take place immediately. Houston would not need to wait until 12/15. The deal would likely be: Luol Deng to Houston Omer Asik and "draft considerations" (from Philly) to Chicago Donatas Motiejunas + possible tax-dodging filler (Kirk Hinrich's expiring contract?) to Philly Note that this frees up a roster spot for Houston. Not sure they'd be in a rush to fill it. Chicago might look to move either Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson, or even Asik again before the February trade deadline for a SF. Dallas would have to consider an Asik-Shawn Marion swap. Another option would be for Motiejunas and Hinrich to get moved to Philly for Evan Turner, who would replace Deng at SF. Philly is not going to re-sign Turner. If Chicago can turn Deng and Hinrich into Asik and Turner then they are a real threat to win it all if Derrick Rose can stop being the worst player in the NBA this season. Anybody who doesn't understand that this deal makes Houston a better team is stupid, honestly.
Mirotic is a little overhyped. Sure, he's doing great in Europe, but D-Mo was playing pretty beastly there as well while being 1 year younger at the time (21) than Mirotic is now (22). So I wouldn't read too much into that. I think they both have pretty similar ceiling. The ceiling being #3 or #2 option on a playoff team, but with average to below-average defense.
It might have already been addressed, but to the "why would Omer want to go there to be Noah's backup" replies; WHO CARES? He isn't a free agent. Daryl is going to send him to whomever gets him the best fit/deal. Asik being happy with the trade has little to do with the decision, IMO.
That's how I like to argue. Call people who don't agree with me stupid. j/k Interesting post, btw. I can't say "I agree!" because most trades that go down are lions that were lying unseen in the weeds, right beneath our eyes: JUMP! "Oh s***!" Although this one would qualify, too.
Chicago didn't match the offer sheet when it was signed. Why would they give up assets for him now? This just doesn't make sense to me as a possible destination.
You flip the pick... I don't think Chicago has much else I want. Gibson & Boozer are overpriced, and they wouldn't deal Noah (nor would he be an ideal fit).
If Chicago want Asik, it can mean only one thing, they are going to trade Noah for Aldridge/Horford. Because of that, I'd do it for Boozer (who Chicago really want rid of), but only if they added that Charlotte pick and Mirotic. We'd need to add say Dmo and something like Brewer to match salaries. Now Chicago might take that because, they don't need those assets if they plan to move Noah (which would be the only reason to get Asik in the first place), he'd get it done on his own. Now if they don't want that, that's fine, but it would not only give them a better team, it would save their notoriously cheap owner up to $25m in salary and luxury tax.
