Chicago: ‘where are the parents?’ Hundreds of kids smash car windows in downtown

The first sentence isn't true. For the 2nd sentence, crime rates have been increasing more in red states and rural areas than blue cities. So maybe its a different set of politicians that need to pay more attention. The highest murder-rate states in the country are consistently deep-red states.

 

Please do not demonize these urban youths.

 

These videos and the whole situation is ****ed up. Especially the video of the white woman trying to get into her apartment and a swarm of black teens assault her.

Chicago needs help. The lack of law enforcement in Chicago and many of the other major cities has led to a drastic rise in what can only be described as anti social behavior. It’s like the glue that held society together is cracking and the social contract is dissolving. My evidence is just how awful drivers have become.

 

Chicago needs help? Chicago right now is VASTLY better than it has been in over 100 years.

Mob violence, race based violence and police coming in and cracking heads has literally always happened.

There was the Great Chicago Fire… then when black people first moved to Chicago around 1900, there were huge race riots and both black and white people were hung…. Then in the 1920’s the city was controlled by organized crime… the Mayor Daley got sick of the mafia and wasn’t happy when the Second Great Migration of black people moved into the city and he forced them all into certain neighborhoods…. Then in the 1960’s the Black Panther’s were murdered and the black people in Chicago burned down part of the city sick of police brutality…

The Projects in Chicago were the worst in the USA in the 1970’s through 2000….

None of this is new - people just have cameras now and it serves someone’s politics to discuss it… this happened last year, and the year before that- until the Chicago police went into the black areas of Chicago and arrested a bunch of people of trumped up charges.

Hell, the FBI/DEA and Chicago Police Department has gotten rid of entire generations of black men. First the Panthers and then P-Stone got too strong, and black men killed black men in gang wars over drugs. Those that lived went to jail. When that didn’t work well enough - the FBI helped the situation in the crack era by putting entire neighborhoods of black men in prison for life and those that didn’t go to jail died in the streets.

Now go to Garfield Park or Englewood in Chicago, Washington Park…. Population has fallen by 75% since the 1960’s in these areas that were 95% black and now are 99% black… yet still have the highest murder rate - but the gangs now are lead by 16 year olds and they are killing other black 16 year olds…. These most dangerous parts of town- white people are afraid to go, but the truth is white people are very safe there. It’s all young black men being killed- Police kill two birds with one stone, one young black man is dead and the other goes to jail for life or killed in the next few days.

It’s funny you mentioned the white woman trying to get into her apartment and was attacked by a mob of young black people… the reality is that Chicago is the safest major city in the USA and one of the safest in the entire world if you are white, especially if you are a white male.

Like 80% of the murders in Chicago come from the same 5 neighborhoods and 80% are black… like 15% Hispanic.

Only 5 people in Chicago this year murdered were not black or Hispanic.

For some reason a lot of Hispanic young women are murdered in Chicago…

So depending on how you look at it, Chicago is fine… and nothing is going to change because sadly, no one cares when black people are killing other black people and segregation is fine when you don’t have to see the consequences because you just avoid 2-3 parts of town.

 

Don’t have to be rich - just a white man and you are extremely safe.

 

If Mayor Johnson is sincere, he needs to do a better job in 4-5 neighborhoods in Chicago. The kids in those areas have extreme poverty, they almost all have a parent dead or in prison and most of them are in gangs by 10 years old. People in those areas feel helpless from almost birth.

 

Your environment isn’t an excuse for criminality or poor personal conduct. Otherwise no one could ever be culpable for anything they ever did. We’re all products of our environments.

Nobody ever applies this reasoning to someone like Trump. “Its not his fault he’s a large orange bloviating gas bag sociopath, he’s just a product of his environment.”

Listen, if Les Miserable taught me anything, its that, Jean Valjean was a poor, he stole a loaf of bread because his sisters child was close to death and Javert was a good public servant for pursuing him all those years to uphold the rule of law.

This is why Chicago needs help. Neither black man should be dead. The issues on Michigan Ave this past week are a result of the generational neglect in the poorer parts of Chicago. Antisocial behavior even by “mentally undeveloped” teenagers is unacceptable. I am neither qualified nor in a position to make meaningful recommendations or changes for how to solve it.

 

I am not sold all of this is being done by the poor kids either. Often times it turns out it’s the middle class kids with two well-meaning parents participating for the “clout”. Like a Ja Morrant.

 

Not likely in Chicago because of how strong gang ties are in Chicago. Gang lines are established very young, by each individual street and being non affiliated and a young black man is almost at being from a rival gang. So a middle class black kid would be at a serious risk going to something with so many gang members. Most of the internet groups are broken down over which set you are in Chicago.

Also Chicago is really segregated.

This same thing was happening since COVID. Usually the police catch it because they try to monitor all gang social media- but sometimes they miss it.

The violence in Chicago has been institutional, as long as the black street gangs limit the violence to other black people and keep it close to their neighborhoods - the cops let it go.

Since Duck was killed, we have seen an increase of theft and violence in downtown but the police believe it’s because a lot of the shot callers now are so young that they cannot keep their members in check- but even with that, the victims are still all black.

Most the people in Chicago don’t care because they don’t live in these 4-5 neighborhoods.

 

The way you talk you are trying to merge individual responsibility and punishment for said individual crimes with addressing systemic policy decisions.

It's a common right wing tactic.

Individual people who commit crimes should face criminal consequences. No one is denying this and I feel like right wing people like you butt in all the time when empathetic normal humans discuss why poor regions have more petty theft, crom etc. Why do you jump to "that means you don't want to criminally charged people who commit crime!?!". No dumbass.

That doesn't erase the discussion of the effects on population groups based on economics disparities.
